In case of most movies, only a few songs become popular and other songs become forgotten with time. I have found that several of these forgotten songs are superb songs to listen to, and with some luck, they should have become popular songs, instead of ending up into the dustbin of obscurity.
In case of the movie “Changez Khan” (1957), the song Muhabbat Zinda rahti hai became an etremely popular song- a timeless classic in fact, and other songs of the movie were duly forgotten.
Since we in this blog love to dig up forgotten songs from obscure movies, it was only a matter of time that the forgotten songs of “Changez Khan” (1957) were looked into by us. And I have come upo with a fantastic song from this movie.
This song is a delightful dance song which is picturised on Helen, Johny Walker and many other dancers. The song is sung by Shamshad Begam, Rafi and chorus. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl.
It is an extremely foot tapping song. I became aware of this song only just now and I loved listening to this song as well as watching it (despite the poor video and all that). It is interesting to realise that Helan, in addition to simnging in the voices of Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhonsle,Lata, Usha Mangeshkar etc, has lip synced in Shamshad Begam’s voice too.
Here is this lovely song that deserves to be revived for the listening and watching pleasure of music lovers.

CHANGEZ KHAN-1957 was a N.C.Films presentation ,produced by Gulshan Behl (uncle of Hansraj Behl) and Directed by Kedar Kapoor,it had music by Hansraj Behl with lyric input from Qamar Jalalabadi(real name Omprakash) who also wrote the dialogues,Saraswati kumar deepak and Varma Malik.
The story was by K.B.Pathak and s/play by Mulkraj Bhakri.
The cast was Bina Rai,Premnath,Shaikh mukhtar,Johnny walker,Kamlesh kumari,jeevan,helen,Tiwari,Leela Mishra etc.
Changez khan one of the most dreaded cruel and blood thirsty General was orinally not like this.His real name was Tamojan and he loved Uzra,a Tartan girl.When her father refused her hand to him and got her married to Sherwan or Sheroo,he was made with rage and attacked Tartar kingdom.Uzra and Sheroo escaped.Changez khan destroyed all kingdoms that he won in war to find her but in vain.Uzra reached India where Bandusar,an Indian king treated her like sister and protected her at the caost of his own life also.
Finally,Changez khan (Shaikh Mukhtar) captures Uzra (Bina Rai) and Shrwan (Premnath),but Sheroo tells him that he may win the world with his sword but can never win a girl’s heart with a sword.
Changez Khan is defeated in love and releases the love birds.
The war scenes in this film were very good,as well as the music was excellent.
