Aankh meri lad gayi re lad gayi

Posted on: December 21, 2011

“Chunariya” (1948) is by now an obscure movie. From the little information that I have about this movie, I know that this movie had Wasti, Manorama, Pran etc in it.

I have discussed one song from this movie in the past. Here is another song from the movie. This extremely rare song is sung by Lata, with a couple of lines uttered by an artist called Inder Goel. This song is written by Mulkraj Bhakri. Hansraj Bahl is the music director.

What a lively and energetic song it is ! Only the audio of this song is available so it is difficult to guess how and on whom this song was picturised. This song could well have been picturised on Manorama. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

Atul ji,
‘Chunariya (1948) was a successful film at the box office which remade the careers of Director Ravindra Dave, Writer and Lyricist Mulkhraj Bhakri and also Music Director Hansraj Bahl who had 4-5 flop films before ‘Chunariya’.

There is a trivia about this lovely and lively song. This song was offered by Hansraj Bahl to Lata Mangeshkar on one condition that she accompanies him to Kashmir and watch the tribal singing the tune after returning from their weekly baazar. Lata was asked to observe their original tribal tune while Hansraj Bahl was noting down the notation of the tune. By evening Hansraj Bahl was ready with the tune and he was playing the song on the harmonium. (Source: apnaarchive.wordpress.com)

Inder Goel was the nephew of Hansraj Bahl. At one place, I remember to have seen his name appearing as Assistant Music Director. Probably, he may have been assisting Hansraj Bahl, his maternal uncle.

Sadanand ji,

Further to what you have said, Inder Goel indeed was his nephew.
He did assist him for almost 10 years. Neither Behl’s nor Goels family had any connection with music basically. They came into film music due to their own likings. Inder was highly educated. He was an M.A. In 1961, he left Bombay to join a college in Jammu as a Professor, teaching the students.
