“Dulaari” (1949) is today mainly rememebered as the movie which calapulted Rafi to the big league with his by now iconic song Suhaani raat dhal chuki. This movie had other nice songs in it as well. As many as five songs from this movie have been discussed in the blog.
Here is another song from “Dulaari” (1949). This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Madhubala. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and music is composed by Naushad.

Atul ji,
DULARI-1949 was A.R.Kardar Prodn. film,produced and directed by ARKardar.Music was by Naushad.
After DNMadhok recommended Naushad to Kardar,this was a film in the begining stage of their thick friendship,which not only lasted many years giving us wonderful musical films but also it made Kardar and Naushad establish a production company separately and produce films in times to come.
Surprisingly,Madhok was not in this film as a Lyricist.The music was fabulous and Rafi became a milestone in film music with his ‘Suhani raat dhal chuki’ from this film.
The story of the film was that of Lost and Found type.
Seth Hirachand gives a party to celebrate his only daughter Radha’s Birthday.His friend Seth Girija Shankar gives a gold locket with her photo to Radha as a gift.Soon after,Radha is kidnapped and never found.
Radha grows up as DULARI (Madhubala) in a Gypsy camp,after 15 years.Jaggu(Shyam kumar) from the camp wants to marry her.
Girija Shankar’s(Jayant) and Kamini’s(Pratima Devi) son Prem(Suresh),one day meets Dulari and falls in her love.Their love affair is reported to the camp sardar by Jaggu.Kasturi(Geeta Bali) who loves Jaggu,when aware of Dulari’s love ,helps her.
Jaggu captures Prem and Dulari red handed and they are brought to camp.There is a big commotion and fight.Jaggu puts fire to the camp to burn the lovers alive but gets caught init himself.To save him both Kasturi and Jaggu die.Before dying,Jaggu reveals that Dulari is Hirachand’s daughter.
Dulari is returned to Hirachand and Dulari and Prem are married.
