Kaun jaane har bahaaney

Posted on: February 17, 2012

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

If I were to write that the ‘M’ in Mukesh stands for ‘Magic’, I am sure there will be very few who would disagree. This song – another wonderful duet by Mukesh and Asha Bhosle, is a magic colored with these two voices. A soft and light song of love, from two hearts that are probably finding love for the first time – and that the heart now smiles in happiness, for every reason, and at every pretext.

The words are from the pen of Jaan Nissar Akhtar, and the lilting melody is created by N Dutta. The song is from the 1961 production, ‘Do Bhai’ from the banner of All India Pictures, Bombay. The film is directed by Vishram Bedekar. The list of credits includes Shakila, Abhi Bhattacharya, Anil Kumar, Sulochana, Durga Khote, Helen, Om Prakash, Daisy Irani, Nasreen, Manorama, Rajan Haksar, Ram Avtar, Indira Bansal, Madhumalati, Chanda Bai etc.

Since only the audio of this song is available, it is not feasible to make a guess as to the on screen performance of this song. Could it be Abhi Bhattacharya? I have never seen him lip synch a song on the screen, but it would be interesting to know. I request other knowledgeable readers to please add more information for this song and the film.

Enjoy this simple and heartwarming melody from N Dutta – unassuming, unpretentious, and a pleasure to listen to.

kyun mera dil lagaa muskuraane
kaun jaane

kyun mera dil lagaa muskuraane
kaun jaane

chaandni kyun sataane lagi hai
kyun hansi lab pe aane lagi hai
chaandni kyun sataane lagi hai
kyun hansi lab pe aane lagi hai
kyun nazar hai jhuki
saans kyun hai ruki
kyun nazar hai jhuki
saans kyun hai ruki
chaal kyun dagmangaane lagi
dil mein chhup ke
chup ke chup ke
kis ne chhede
ye rangeen taraane
kaun jaane
har bahaane
kyun mera dil lagaa muskuraane
kaun jaane

dil dhadkta hai shaayad kisi kaa aa

Sudhir ji,
You must have, nay, you have definitely seen Abhi bhattacharya lip synch songs on screen. Jagriti-1954 for example,Hum Laye hai tufaan se and other songs like Aao bachhon tumhe dikhaye etc .
I also remember off hand a film called Apradhi Kaun-57 where he has ‘sung’ some songs.
There could be more films also.

An aged Abhi Bhattacharya lip synced Kishore kumar`s song from Dost(Dulal guha-Dharmendra,Hemamalini)”Gaadi bulaa rahi hai, seeti bajaa rahi hai, chalnaa hi zindagi hai”

Sudhir ji,
I have seen this film when it was released. This song is sung by Anil kumar and Shakila on screen as Shibu and kasturi.
DO BHAI-1961 was a totally family drama of the routine type where there is a sacrificing soul and a selfish soul.In such films the story writer and the directors try every trick in their bags to make the women audience weep.Vishram Bedekar, who was once a hit director was now in his waning times and could not do much to lift the film above average.

Babu Vishwanath dies leaving a will to give all wealth to his elder son Gopinath(Abhi Bhatta.).Gopi’s step mother Vimla(Durga Khote) loves Gopi more than her own vagabond son Shibu(Anil kumar).Shibu is a gone case.Gopi and his wife Rukmini(Sulochana) also love Shibu but he is instigated by his Mama(Rajan Haksar)Kashinath and Shibu starts hating Gopi.Gopi knows that it is due to the wealth only,so he destroys the will.Only Rukmini knows this.
Shibu loves Kasturi(Shakila),d/o Barrister Manek chand(Omprakash),who has fixed her marriage elsewhere.Shibu wants only Kasturi,so Gopi tries to advocate his case with Manek chand who refuses it.Shibu is upset and accuses Gopi about kasturi.Gopi is hurt.He leaves all wealth to Shibu and leaves the house with Rukmini and child Basant(Daisy Irani).
Vimla is angry looking at Shibu and Kashi’s deeds. She teaches a lesson to Shibu by severing all her ties with him and leaving him alone.Shibu realises his mistakes. He first throws Kashinath out and brings Gopi and co. back home.
Manek chand also now concedes and Kasturi’s is married to shibu, who is an ideal bro. now.
The End.

Arun ji, Prakash ji,

Thanks for your inputs, and yes I stand corrected. There are songs that Abhi Bhattacharya has sung in Jagriti and in Dost.

Arun ji, I checked the songs for Apradhi Kaun (1957). There are only two songs with male playback by Manna Dey. I could locate one of them, a duet by Asha ji and Manna Dey. In this song, the male performer on screen is Kumud Tripathi. I am not able to locate the second one “Phir Wohi Dard Hai. . .”.

Well, let me modify my observation, and say that I have not seen Abhi Bhattacharya having sung any romantic songs on screen. I have some films with him as the male lead actor; let me check.

Abhi Bhattacharya has lip synch at least two songs/bhajans in Biraj Bahu-1954, movie based on a novel by Saratchandra Chatterjee. Both bhajans sung by Hemant Kumar.
