Aur hai dil ki lagi

I came to know about the film RAAG RANG (1952) in early 70s while discussing some old Hindi songs with one of my office colleagues who had a vast collections of old Hindi film songs in 78 rpm records.
Nothing is known about the genre of this film but from the name of the film, it appeared to be a musical film. In one of the get togethers with some of my like-minded friends, I heard very high praises about Roshan’s music in this film. I was almost a novice in the field of old Hindi film song. So without listening to any of the songs from this film, I bought a 78 rpm record of this film from Chor Bazar which had ‘shak nahi rupaye mein’ sung by Lata. The song was not that great though I liked its fast paced orchestration.
Recently I listened to two songs of this film which were already discussed in this blog and found them to be somewhat different from the usual Roshan style that we are used to.
Further searches on YT revealed two more songs from this film which, in my view, were the best of the songs of this film I have listened so far. One of these two songs is ‘aur hai dil ki lagi aur dil lagaanaa aur hai’ sung by Talat Mehmood. The song is written by Kaif Irfani.
The starting orchestration of the song gives an impression that it is a fast paced song. But just before the start of the song, the slower sarangi interlude gives an indication of the mood of the song. Still, the tempo/beat of this song is a bit faster than the usual one which goes with such types of songs especially those sung by Talat Mehmood. This, however, does not detract from the mood of the song. I like the way Kaif Irfani has used the words‘aur’ many times in the lyrics to mean different things in different contexts ( aur=and, another). The pathos in the song is beautifully crafted in the following couplet:
jo taraanaa lab per aayaa wo to sab ne sun liyaa
rah gayaa jo dil hi dil mein wo taraanaa aur hai
Only the audio clip of this song is available. But I guess that it was picturised on Ashok Kumar who was in the lead role in this movie along with Geeta Bali.
Song-Aur hai dil ki lagi (Raag Rang)(1952) Singer-Talat Mehmood, Lyrics-Kaif Irfani, MD-Roshan
Lyrics
aur hai dil ki lagi
aur dil lagaanaa aur hai
ye kahaani aur hai
par wo fasaanaa aur hai
aur hai dil ki lagi
rooth ke jo chal diyaa
rooth ke jo chal diyaa
kyaa khabar usko bhalaa
kyaa khabar usko bhalaa
yaad rakhnaa aur hai
aur bhool jaanaa aur hai
aur hai dil ki lagi
jo taraanaa lab pe aayaa
jo taraanaa lab pe aayaa
wo to sab ne sun liyaa
wo to sab ne sun liyaa
rah gayaa jo dil hi dil mein
wo taraanaa aur hai
aur hai dil ki lagi
haay kis khoobi se lootaa
haay kis khoobi se lootaa
bewafaa taqdeer ne
bewafaa taqdeer ne
teri barabadi kaa ae dil
har fasaanaa aur hai
aur hai dil ki lagi
