Posted on: February 23, 2012

“Shabaab” (1954) was a Sadiq Production movie. It was produced and directed by M Sadiq. Starcast of the movie included names like Bharat Bhushan, Nutan, Badri Prasad, Shyam Kumar, Yashodhara Katju, Wasti etc.

As many as five songs from this movie have already been discussed in the past. Here is another song from the movie. This melancholic song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Nutan. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and music is composed by Naushad.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Song-Mar gaye ham jeete jee maalik (Shabaab)(1954) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)

mar gaye hum jeete ji
maalik tere sansaar mein
mar gaye hum jeete ji
maalik tere sansaar mein
ho o o
chal diya humko khewaiyya
chhod ke majhdhaar mein
maalik tere sansaar mein
mar gaye hum

unkaa aana
unkaa jaana
khel thha taqdeer kaa
unkaa aana
unkaa jaana
khel thha taqdeer kaa
ho o
khwaab thhey woh zindagi ke
din jo guzre pyaar mein
maalik tere sansaar mein
mar gaye hum

le gaye woh saath apne
saaz bhi aawaaz bhi
ho o
le gaye woh saath apne
saaz bhi aawaaz bhi
ho o
reh gaya naghma adhoora
dil ke toote taar mein maalik
tere sansaar mein
mar gaye hum jeete ji maalik
tere sansaar mein
mar gaye hum

Just yesterday evening I was scouting for another Shabab song – Jo me jaanti bisrat hai saiyyan on youtube to post on facebook.

Such lovely lyrics : unka aana unka jaana khel tha takdeer ka, Khawab they wo zindagi ke, din to guzre pyar me.

Atul ji,
SHABAB-1954 was a musical film from the Golden period of hindi films.
the 50s had such melodious movies that the listeners were floating in divine music.Naushad was in his best element and whatever the story and acting, audience jumped on his films for that sweet music.
That is the reason,an actor( ? ) like Bharat Bhushan was featured in such films and still people tolerated him, only because of Naushad’s music.
the film was directed by the producer and the Banner owner M.Sadiq, who directed almost 40 films in his career. These included hits like,Bahu begum,Chaudhavi ka chand,Anmol Ratan,Chhoo mantar,Pardes,Rattan,Thokar,Taj Mahal etc.
a carvan of a king was going thru a jungle, when brigands attacked them. The not only looted everything, but also killed everybody.Only a small baby was left untouched.A Dhobi-Lakhiya saw the baby.took it home and brought it up.Now he was Rattan,a singer, whose singing became very famous.
The king of the land had a beautiful daughter-Ragini,who could not sleep due to Insomnia for many years. Some astrologer tells that only divine music will cure her. Many singers from far and near came but to no avail.Rattan decides to try his luck and goes there singing “chandan ka palna” and know what ! Lo and behold-the princes goes to sleep like she has taken Barbiturates in kilos !
When she wakes up,she dutifully falls in Rattan”s love, which he also reciprocates as per the script. However the evil Vazir, reports this to the king and they are separated. The princess is married off to another prince and Rattan is sent back to his abode.
Rattan and Ragini are heartbroken.Seeing this Lakhiya takes Rattan to where Ragini lives. Her husband (naturally) does not like it and captures RattanBbefore that Rattan and Ragini sing songs.King orders Rattan’s execution, hearing this Ragini also decided to do Ditto.
When Rattan dies,Ragini also ends her life.
this is a story of eternal love !

Arunji,
I had seen this movie at very young age on Doordarshan as my Mom loved all the songs in this movie. A huge fan of Nutan, I did not mind it either, so I enjoyed the movie. I also love Rafi’s song, Mehelon mein rahene wale hume tere dar se kya……., specially lyrics.
“o denewalo humko na daulat ki bhikh do
joli hai dil ki khali mohabbat ki bhikh do
bhookhe hain ek nazar ke hume maal o dar se kya”

Thanks for refreshing the story line for me.
