“Raftaar” (1975) was a movie that was not quite A grade, nor it was an entirely B grade movie. In 1970s, such movies, which were neither here nor there tended to have Vinod Mehra and Mausami Chatterji in them as the lead pair. Put another way, they were poor producer’s Dharmendra-Hema Malini.
“Raftaar” (1975) was a Chitrashala production. It was directed by Dinesh Ramnath. Starcast included names like Vinod Mehra, Moushumi Chatterjee, Madan Puri, Danny Denzongpaa,
Ruby Myres aka Senior sulochana, Arpana Chaudhary, Ranjeet, Sunder, Kundan, Indira Bansal,
Mohan Choti, Birbal, Jankidass, Manisha, Moolchand, Lalita Kumari,Paro, Chanda, Mohan Sherry, Babban, Jerry, Sheroo, Rajan Kapoor, Bhola, Hungama etc.
The producers could not afford big name music directors, but that did not affect the quality of music since there were several underemployed music directors available for them to chose from. They went for Sonik Omi and the musical duo composed music that were easily the major (if not the only) highlight of the movie.
Here is a delightful duet from this movie. It is sun by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi and it is picturised on Mausami Chatterji and Vinod Mehra. Verma Malik is the lyricist.
I remeber hearing this song a lot on radio during its time. I am surprised that this song is today described as a rare song by some people.

There is a song of Mukesh and Asha from the same movie: ‘Sansaar hain ek nadiya” for which I have already furnished the lyrics to Atulji. It is a philosophical song and evocatively sung by them.

RAFTAAR-1975 was indeed a B grade film with everything connected as B grade.Few songs were good.It was a Chitrashala film,produced by S.I.Shivdasani,who had earlier produced another B film,Tanhai-72.
It was directed by Dinesh Ramnesh,for whom this was his First film.Later he directed 5 more B/C grade films-Aakhari kasam,Bhookh,Laakhan,Zulm ki pukar and Ladaaku.
Music by Sonik Omi and lyrics by,Abilash,Varma Malik and Omkar Varma.
in this film everything happens with speed,hence the name Raftaar.
Rani(Maushami Chaterjee) is a beautiful village girl,who falls in love with Vikram(Vinod Mehra),the manager of Kumar saab’s estate.One day Kumar sees Rani.He sends vikram to town and kidnaps Rani and she is raped by Kumar saab(Danny).Vikram is falsely arrested and put behind bars.Rani wants to commit suicide,but is saved by Jackson,a Violinist,who trnsforms her into Rita-a singer/dancer in no time.She goes to the city to take revenge of Kumar.
Vikram comes to the village to find Rani missing.Kumar tries to burn his jeep,but Vikram is saved by Banjaran Radha(Aparna),who treats him Bhaiyya.She requests Vikram to find her runaway husband.He promises and comes to city.
Rani meets kumar,who calls her to his hotel.Vikram sees Rani who refuses to recognise him.When Vikram sees Kumar with Rani,he attacks kumar.Chandu(Ranjit),the banjara leader who also loves Radha,kills kumar(Radha’s husband) and Vikram is arrested for his murder.
Radha reaches the city.She and Rani,together trap Chandu.police arrest him as the murderer and release Vikram
vikram and Rani reunite.
