——————————————

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Mehmil’. It is one of those movies from the year 1972 which is yet to be represented on the blog.

‘Mehmil’ is directed by Vibhuti Mishra for Mitra Productions, Bombay. The list of actors includes Farah, Shiv Kumar, Shatrughan Sinha, Vibhuti Mishra, Indrani Dutt, Pratima Devi, Mona, Jayant Bhatt, Pankaj, Tun Tun, Shekhar Purohit, Prem Mubarak, Prem Pujari, Yunus Bihari, Sitara, Lakshmi, Jeniffer, Shareefa, Dulari, Rajkumari and others. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 13.10.1972.

This movie has five songs – four penned by Kafil Azar and one song penned by Qamar Jalalabadi. Music for this movie is composed by Sonik-Omi. The list of songs in this movie is as given below (as provided in HFGK).

Sl. No. Song Title Singer/s
01 Kitna hai soona soona mehmil (Part-1) Asha Bhonsle
02 Hamen milnaa thhik nahin Asha Bhonsle
03 Meri jaan hai sona Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi
04 Kitna hai soona soona mehmil (Part-2) Omi
05 Kaash main ladki hota Asha Bhonsle

Today’s song is sung by Omi and when I listen this song the very first time, I liked it very much. Omi’s singing in this song is something special that leaves one humming this song after it ends. And it grows as we listen to it more. I had earlier presented the title song of ‘Ek Khilaadi Baawan Pattey’ sung by him. It would be interesting to know how many songs he had sung in HFM so far.

Well, HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) lists the today’s song in two parts. However, on all sources only this Omi version is available. Though some sources give the link with the name of singer Asha Bhonsle but have uploaded the same song sung by Omi. I tried to locate the female version but could not find it so far. Till then we will enjoy this song in the voice of Omi. We will add the female version to today’s post if it is made available later.

The videos of the songs of ‘Mehmil’ are also not available and neither is the movie available online. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the movie and its songs.

Meaning of ‘Mehmil’ as taken from Rekhta.org

(maḥmil n. of place fr ‘to bear, carry,’ c.)

(A maḥmil (n. of place fr ‘to bear, carry,’ &c.), s.m. That by which anything is supported, that in (or on) which anything is borne; that which carries the double load of a camel, a camel’s saddle; a camel litter or dorser (in which women travel).

Let us have a look on the list of movies of 1972 after adding the today’s movie and till the today’s movie alphabetically. Today’s movie is the 76th in this alphabetical list.
Ed Note: In the interest of brevity, the list is collapsed to show the films onward from the previous episode in the series , namely ‘Maanavta’ plus the ones that are without any available information or songs. Readers may refer to previous episodes of this series for earlier details – “Tere Vishal Hriday Ne Paai, Saaton Saagar KI Gehraai“.

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
—————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 148 # A tribute to Kishore Kumar#
———————————————–———————————————

Today 4th August 2021 is the ninety-second birth anniversary of legendary Kishore Kumar.

He was born on 4th August 1929 at Khandwa (nowadays MP) and passed away on 13th October’1987 at Mumbai. Had he been alive, he would have celebrated his ninety-second birthday today. But he passed away at the age of fifty-eight years only and left his musical memories with us forever to cherish and enjoy.

For today’s occasion, I was looking for a song from a movie not presented on the blog and a song which is different. While searching in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) I came across today’s movie ‘Yauwan’. I was neither aware of the movie nor its songs.

Luckily this movie has not been presented on the blog and it contains a Kishore Kumar song and that too a ‘solo’ song. This is also the only Kishore Kumar song in this movie. And this is the song which I do not remember to have listened earlier. A low-pitched soft song this song serves the purpose of being a ‘different song’ from other well-known Kishore Kumar songs still to come up on the blog. This is a lesser heard song too. In summary, this song is just what the doctor ordered. 🙂

“Yauwan-1973” was directed by Ranjan Bose for ‘N.P. International, Bombay’. It was produced by N.P. Singh. It had Yogeeta Bali, Anil Dhawan, Sujit Kumar, Sundar, Mohan Choti, Jankidas, Poornima, Sajjan, Aashu, Rajpal, Renu, Rajanibala, Amar Grewal, Rameshwar, Bharat, Ratan Gaurang, Mehta, Sharma, Jugnu, Baby Sajju, Rajpal and others.

It had Kabir Bedi also featuring in a special appearance which the movie titles mentioned as ‘and a brief encounter with Kabir Bedi’ 😊

Story and screenplay of this movie was written by Ranjan Bose who was also the director of this movie. Dialogues of this movie were written by Madan Joshi and editing was done by Bhaskar Rao.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 12.02.1973.

“Yauwan-1973” had five songs in it, all written by Onkar Verma. Music for this movie was composed by Sonik-Omi.

All the five songs in this movie are solo songs. Four of them are sung by Asha Bhonsle and one by Kishore Kumar.

Here is the list of songs in this movie as appearing in the movie-page of this movie in HFGK Vol-V.

S.No Song Title Singer/s
01 Ye reshmi andhera lut jaane ka mausam Asha Bhonsle
02 Bandariya naach dikhaaye ki haathi dhhol bajaaye Asha Bhonsle
03 Jalta hai ye tan, sun o jaaneman Asha Bhonsle
04 Tumhaari berukhi se pareshaan hain nazaare Kishore Kumar
05 Kuchh chaahe aye aa, kuchh dhhoondhhe aye aa Asha Bhonsle

As mentioned above today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar . It is lip-synced by Anil Dhawan who is singing the song to cheer up Yogeeta Bali.

I have not watched this movie so can’t say much about it. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie ‘Yauwan-1973’ and its songs.

Let us now listen to today’s song and pay our tributes to one and the only ‘Kishore Kumar’.

With this song, the movie ‘Yauwan-1973’ makes its debut on the blog.

Sahir Ludhianvi & His Music Directors-2 – (one movie collaboration only)
——————————————————————————————-

Welcome all to today’s post. In this series we will have a song from ‘Sahir & his music directors’ for ‘one movie association’ only. We have discussed this ‘one movie collaboration’ in the first article of this series here.

We are taking a ‘pause’ here instead of moving to ‘two movie collaboration’ movies of Sahir & his music directors.

Thus, I will say this article as a ‘pause post’ here in this series.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Bhaai Ho To Aisa-1972’. So far, only one song from this movie has been posted on the blog and it was (the only popular or known song) ‘bol meri gudiya gudde ke sang jaayegi’.
This first song from this movie was posted on 24.01.2009. So, in the next couple of months this would be celebrating its twelve years on the blog. With this song being discussed today, that song would now have company. 😊

The other reason for covering a song from this movie is that I do not remember to have listened to the songs of this movie as frequently as most other songs written by Sahir Ludhianvi that I have listened to frequently and.

I have not watched this movie. But I remember to have heard the song ‘bol meri gudiya gudde ke sang jaayegi’ on radio and loud speakers in my childhood days.

‘Bhai Ho To Aisa-1972’ was directed by Manmohan Desai for ‘A.K. Movies, Bombay’. It was produced by A.K. Nadiadwala. It had Jeetendra, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, Bipin Gupta, Tiwari, Bela Bose, Viju Khote, Praveen Paul, Jankidas and Jagdeep with Indrani Mukherjee, Jayshree T, Jeevan, Ranjeet, Bobby, Sapru.

Story and screenplay of this movie was written by K.P. Pathak and dialogues were written by Prayag Raj. Kamlakar was the editor of this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 11.05.1972.

This movie had five songs written by Sahir Ludhianvi and composed by Sonik-Omi.

Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar were the singers for the songs in this movie.

03 Aa jaa meri jawaani ko mastaani ko Lata Mangeshkar Being discussed today
04 Ae phooljhadi ae gulchhadi Mohd Rafi
05 Sun le naagraja sun le mere devta Asha Bhonsle

Today’s song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and on screen it is performed by Jayshree T. If one looks at the video without listening the full song somebody could well mistake it for a song sung by Asha Bhonsle.

But this is a different song where we see Jayshree T performing in front of two ‘daakus’ (Jeetendra and Jagdeep) who have kidnapped Mama (Jeevan with his daughter) and all this is done to ensure that Mama (Jeevan) believes that there is a ‘hamshakal’ of Bharat (Jeetendra) and he can tell his big brother Ram Singh (Shatrughan Sinha) about this, who is planning to kill Bharat, to get all the estate of his father on his name. However, the movie ends with everything going well as planned by the ‘director’ for the ‘audience’ 😊

I am reproducing below a brief about this movie as given on IMDB which can be helpful to understand the overall ‘plot’ 😊

“Thakur is a rich and wealthy man. He has two sons, the elder is Ram, who is married but frequents a prostitute Munnibai. The second son is Bharat, who is unmarried, and is good, virtuous, and devoted to his family, and expected to marry Roopa. While disciplining his elder son, Thakur has a heart-attack and passes away, leaving the administration of the estate to his younger son and daughter-in-law, the wife of Ram, Gayatri. This does not auger well with Ram and Mamaji, and they attempt to force Bharat to sign the estate over to them. When they fail, they conspire to kill him, and take over the estate from Gayatri. Bharat overhears this, and goes along with Ram’s plan to kill him. He then returns as Daaku Mangal Singh, his look-alike, in order to set things right. Things seem to be going well, until Bharat finds himself in a tight corner when he is accused of killing himself.”

Let us now listen to today’s song … and add one more song to the tally of songs of ‘Bhai Ho To Aisa-1972’ …

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 103 # In Remembrance – Hasrat Jaipuri & Mahendra Kapoor #
——————————————————————————–

Today’s song is from a debutant movie ‘Dharti Ki God Mein-1971’. I was longing to introduce this movie on the blog since long but was not able to locate its songs and they seem difficult to find. Now they are available uploaded since last year i.e. 2019. Thanks to the uploader.

‘Dharti Ki God Mein-1971’ was directed by Kewal Mishra for ‘Bhagyashri Productions, Bombay’. It was a ‘social movie’. It had Som Dutt, Komal, Kanhaiyalal, Shatrughan Sinha, Chaman Puri, Jayshree T., Renu, Sundar, Dhanraj Pahalwan, Rajnath, Bedi Sindhara, Lakshami Arya, Rajan Haksar, Uma Dutt, Y.N. Kapoor, Gopi Tak, Honey Irani, Master Ratan, Mehrunnisaa, Durga Khote and others.

This movie had six songs written by Hasrat Jaipuri and composed by Sonik-Omi. Asha Bhonsle, Mahendra Kapoor, and Komal had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 09.11.1971.

17th September 2020 was the twenty-first Remembrance anniversary of Poet lyricist Hasrat Jaipuri (15.04.1922-17.09.1999). I was looking for a debutant movie then which has lyrics penned by him. However, I could not send my write-up then. Today we are going to introduce this movie ‘Dharti Ki God Mein’ which have all songs penned by Hasrat Jaipuri on the blog.

Today 27th September 2020 is the twelfth Remembrance anniversary of Singer Mahendra Kapoor (09.01.1934-27.09.2008).

‘Dharti Ki God Mein-1971’ has Mahendra Kapoor’s voice in five songs i.e. in all songs except except one song of the movie. He has sung two solo, two duets and one song having voice of three singers.

As a tribute to Hasrat Jaipuri and Mahendra Kapoor today we listen to this song from the movie ‘Dharti Ki God Mein-1971’ composed by Sonik-Omi.

Only audio of this song is available and I hope it is full song. Also, I think this movie must have been an obscure movie of its and its songs were forgotten easily.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the movie and its songs.

Let us now enjoy this song.

(As mentioned above with this song ‘Dharti Ki God Mein-1971’ makes its debut on the blog today. (Only ‘one’ movie from alphabet ‘D’ from 1917 remains to be launched now to cover launching of all ‘D’ movies of ‘1971’ on the blog 🙂 )

Saga Of Sleepless Nights – 9
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

aaj ki raat, ye kaisi raat
ke hum ko neend nahin aati. . .

If the previous song in the series was a lament about lonely nights and the longing that accompanies them, this song today is expressing the opposite emotion. The lovers are together, and the lady is now complaining that her lover does not have an iota of sleep in his eyes, and that she is worried for that.

The gamut of human emotions is spread out wide and far. And whatever be the emotional flavor one may select, one is sure to locate a song from Hindi films that expresses that emotion fairly accurately. Continuing with the saga of sleepless nights, here today we have a flavor of sleeplessness that is expressing a complaint against the lack of sleep on the part of the gentleman. The lady is cajoling and chiding him, trying to induce sleep in his eyes. She is asking him what toy he would like to have, and that she may bring to him that which he desires. But the imploring thread intertwined is that the lack of sleep in his eyes worries her.

Word are crafty. They are a double edge sword that say one thing and mean another. The scenario being played out on screen appears to be one of deception. Apparently Ranjeet is pursuing Navin Nischol, who in turn seems to have taken refuge at Rekha’s home. Now both Rekha and Navin Nischol are inside a room, with Ranjeet sitting outside. And the scenario being played out is as if Rekha is putting a baby to sleep inside the bolted room. The song is telling in words that a mother is trying to put a baby to sleep. That is what a person outside the room would surmise, as one listens to the words of the song emanating from the room. However, the scene, as is being played out inside, there is no baby being put to sleep. Rather, the lovers have been thrown together by themselves in the room. The lady is trying to fend off the advances of the gentleman, and is singing a complaint that there is no sleep in his eyes, and that she would rather that he would take shelter in sleep.

The word and the scenario present an interesting juxtaposition. The film is ‘Saawan Bhaadon’ from 1970. Memory serving right, I remember this film being promoted as the debut film for the lead pair of Navin Nischol and Rekha. As later inputs would clarify, technically this is not the debut film for Rekha, and that her first film ‘Do Shikari’ (1978) was eventually released after a delay of many years. I remember seeing the posters and hoardings for this film as a school going kid. And I also remember that a few songs of this film became very popular and were often played on the radio waves.

The film is produced under the banner of Deluxe Films, Bombay and is directed by Mohan Sehgal, a director of certain repute from that era. The list of actors is presented as Navin Nischal, Rekha, Shyama, Jaishri Talpade, Agha, Narendra Nath, Iftikhar, Krishan Dhawan, Ranjeet, Chandrima Bhaduri, Sushma, Madhukar, Devi Chand, Pardesi, OP Kohli, Dhruv Kumar, Ajeet Bengali, Mamaji, and Darpan Nille etc.

The films has seven songs, all from the pen of Verma Malik. The music is composed by the duo of Sonik Omi. Two songs of this film are already showcased on our blog. This is the third song to find its place here.

Today also is the remembrance day for Manohar Lal Sonik, the senior partner in this duo team of music directors. He had passed away this day (9th July) in the year 1993. This is the reminder nudge from our dear Prakashchandra ji, who has sent in the lyrics for this song.

So this was one of the lesser heard songs in its time, being overshadowed by its more popular siblings like “Sun Sun O Gulabi Kali”, “Kaan Mein Jhumka Chaal Mein Thumka” and “Aankhen Meri Maikhaana, Maikhaana, Maikhaana”. On screen the song is performed by a pre-makeover Rekha, chiding a naughty Navin Nischol, while Ranjeet is seated outside the door of the room.

Listen, view and enjoy.

“Chandan”(1971) was produced and directed by Kewal Mishra for Kewal Art Production, Bombay. The movie had The movie had Som Dutt, Joginder Shelly, Komal aka Poonam Sinha, Jayashree.T., Zeb Rehman, Dilip Dutt, Ramesh Deo, Ram Mohan, Birbal, Mohan Choti, V.Gopal, Kishan, Meenakshi, Renu Joshi, M.Sahgal, Coca cola, Dhanraj, Asi Dutt, Kishan, Kishore Kumar etc in it.

Som Dutt, the brother of Sunil Dutt, was launched by Sunil Dutt with “Man Ka Meet”(1968). Instead of Som Dutt gettinmg launched, that film helped Vinod Khanna getting launched.

It can be seen that Kewal Mishra saw enough in Som Dutt to sign him up as the hero for his movie. Seeing that the movie ended up belly up at the box office. I have no idea what he thought about this flop venture of his.

Not just the movie, even its songs ended up as forgotten.

The movie had five songs in it. One song has been covered in the past. That was in 2013. While covering that song, I had mentioned that I had never heard of that movie and the song. Same can be said about this song under discussion as well. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Mukesh. Omkar Verma is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sonik Omi.

The song is picturised as a typical chhed chhad turning into love kind of song on Komal (later better known as wife of Shatrughan Sinha) and Som Dutt. I found it a nice hummable song the very first time I listed to it.

Song-Ho kaahe chhede mujhe re beimaan (Chandan)(1971) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Mukesh, Lyrics-Omkar Verma, MD-Sonik Omi

Lyrics

ho kaahe chhede
ho kaahe chhede mujhe re beimaan
abhi hai meri baali umariya
ja ja ja
ho kaahe chhede mujhe re beimaan
abhi hai meri baali umariya
o
oho ri gori hoga tera ehsaan
milaa le zara mujhse najariya

na na na na na
kaahe chhede mujhe re beiman
abhi hai meri baali umariya

masti bhari ye teri chikni jawaani
bol hai ri gori kiske liye

arre ja re deewaane tere jaise kayi
dekh ke re mujhe fisla kiye
masti bhari ye teri chikni jawaani
bol hai ri gori kiske liye

ja ja re deewaane tere jaise kayi
dekh ke re mujhe fisla kiye
ho gori sadiyon se main hoon tera deewaana
o chal deewaane tu paas mere aana na
tu maar dil pe najar ka nishaana
ho aaj ye shikaari bana anjaan
dekho ji dekho pakde machhariya
sun le sun le
ho gori hoga tera ehsaan
milaa le zara mujhse najariya

kaahe chhede mujhe re beimaan
abhi hai meri bali umariya

jhootha hai tu re daghaabaaz chhaliya
dil mein re tere chor chhupa hai
oho mujhko hi samhje hai tu chor goriye
tujhpe mera jahaan luta hai

haaye jhoothha hai tu re daghaabaaz chhaliya
dil mein re tere chor chhupa hai
oho mujhko hi samhje hai tu chor goriye
tujhpe mera jahaan luta hai

o teri baaton pe main na aitbaar karoon
ho gori janmon se tujhko main to pyaar karoon
o sun deewaane zamane se dar tu
o gori kahna mera zara maan
banaa le mujhe apna sanwariya

na na na na na na na
kaahe chhede mujhe re beimaan
abhi hai meri baali umariya
gori hoga tera ehsaan
milaa le zara mujhse najariya
