“Sangeet Samrat Tansen” (1962) was a labour of love for S N Tripathi. This movie was a Sur Sagar Chitra Production. It was directed by S N Tripathi. A movie was made on the fife of Tansen two decades ago and there the lead role was played by K L Saigal and the musical score of that movie was unparalleled. So S N Tripathi had a lot to live up to. It must be siad that the music of “Sangeet samrat Tansen” (1962) stood up to the scrutity very well. It is other matter that the movie, being a B grade movie, may not have created box office records. I am not awrae how this movie fared at the box office and I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
The songs of “Sangeet Samrat Tansen” (1962) are awesome. These songs may not have got their rightful dues at that time, but the music of this movie deserves to be acknowledged for its sheer quality which was absolutely A grade.
I have discussed three songs from this movie. Here is another song from the movie. I have heard this song many a times before, but I was not aware about the detrails of the song including the fact that the song belonged to this movie.
This song, which is a high voltage high decibel prayer to Lord Shiva is sung by Kamal Barot and Mahendra Kapoor. The picturisation of the song shows a small kid lip syncing in Kamal Barot’s voice. So Kamal Barot lends her voice to a kid. Female singers singing for young boys was a standard practice those days.
The picturisation in fact only features Kamal Barot’s portion of the song and ends abruptly with the listener left high and dry. Fortunately the full audio version of the song is also available. The missing portion of the song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor.
It is a great experience to listen to this energetic prayer.
I am not clear who has written this song. Some sources attribute the lyrics to Shailendra whereas I have also seen a comment on YT attributing the lyrics to Tansen hmself. I request our knbowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
S N Tripathi is the music director.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

As per the HFGK,this song/Bhajan/stuti is by Tansen himself. It must be a traditional song after that.So Shailendra is not the Lyricist of this song.

If I remember right, ‘Sangeet Samrat Tansen’ wasn’t exactly a flop at the box-office. There’s this well known Mukesh number…”Jhoomthi chali hawa…” I think it’s from this movie…..
