Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Ye ladka haaye Allah kaisa hai deewaana

Posted on: April 28, 2012

This article is written by Raja, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

My last few posts have been about songs of the 1970s. As I’ve explained before, this is only because I find it easier to talk about that decade. Some golden-era film and music lovers may even like to call it the decadent decade 😉 – and they would not be entirely wrong, in my opinion.

Sure, there were some good movies and songs made in this decade too but, even as a 1970s person, I will acknowledge that the sheer beauty of golden oldies of previous eras leaves me lost for words (and I am rarely lost for words). I must admit the 1970s does not quite stack up to this high standard. And I say this with no disrespect whatsoever to the major composers of the time – RD, L-P, K-A. Maybe the audience had changed, their taste had changed – and after all, film music is composed with the current audience in mind.

But yes, it’s much easier for me to write about the 1970s as I can then write about my own experiences and not just others’ experiences.

Which brings me to today’s post. It is about a personal experience of mine.

A long time ago, on a cricket forum that both Atul and I are members of, I’d written about my experience of watching Hum Kisise Kum Nahin (HKKN). Though it is mainly a cricket forum, we discuss (although to a lesser extent now) all sorts of topics under the sun there.

Hindi songs used to be a major subject of discussion among the few Hindi music lovers there. Needless to mention, both Atul and I were pretty active in this section. In fact, it is possible that Atul was encouraged to start this blog after his numerous posts there.

Anyway, one of the posts I’d written then was about my experience of how I watched HKKN. It was much-appreciated by others on the forum then – and I’d forgotten all about it.

A couple of days ago, Atul reminded me of it, saying it would be nice if I could share it here with others. His only concern was that it had been posted on the forum before we’d done a major upgrade a couple of years ago – and since that upgrade, a lot of previous content had been lost. So he was not sure whether it was still available.

Well, the content may not be on the forum anymore but thankfully I’d also posted it on my blog then, so it is available. Here is the link for those of you interested in this story. Do let me know what you think of it – you can leave a comment on the blog, or if you like (maybe easier to do), just leave one here on this post.

Naturally, having seen the movie the hard way ;-), the song I’m posting here today is going to be from, what else, but HKKN.

This movie had 9 songs, as far as I remember. And at one time, I knew every line of every single song by heart. (I think even today, if I just think a bit, I will remember every line of every song).

HKKN was a huge musical success – there are not many movies (certainly after the golden era) that can claim to have 9 songs – and each one of them a hit!
The film, directed by Nasir Hussain, was even otherwise a hit, a good timepass movie – and a huge boost for Rishi Kapoor’s career. Till then he’d had the odd hit (like Khel Khel Mein) but a fair number of duds too (like Zehreela Insaan, Barood and Rangeela Ratan). So his stock, although rising, was not exactly high.
HKKN changed that. At a time when Amitabh Bachchan was ruling the roost, for a non-Amitabh masala movie to become such a commercial success was rare – but HKKN did it.

The heroine, Kaajal Kiran, was introduced in this film – and, riding on this, should have gone on to make it big but somehow her career never quite took off.
The other main actor in the film, Tariq (nephew of Nasir Hussain) also suffered a similar fate. Inspite of starring in an earlier blockbuster, Yaadon Ki Baarat (also directed by Nasir Hussain) and this film, his acting career also went nowhere.

The success of HKKN encouraged Nasir Hussain to try out a sequel of sorts with Zamaane Ko Dikhaana Hai. It was also a musical extravaganza, also with the Majrooh-RD Burman team (which had delivered SO many hits for Nasir Hussain). Although ZKDH was promoted heavily, it did not fare particularly well at the box-office and, inspite of a few hit songs, turned out to be a big disappointment at that time.

I can go on and on about HKKN but I think this post is already getting very long. I can already visualize some of you saying “Oh, not ANOTHER of his long stories!”:-). So, I’m coming straight to the song now.

The song I’m picking for today is “ye ladka hai allah kaisa hai deewana”.
I’ve heard this song a zillion times and always liked it very much. “Kya hua tera waada” may have been the biggest hit song of the film but this one is closer to my heart.

It is a Rafi-Asha duet, picturised on Tariq and Kaajal Kiran. It is outdoors, pure fun and both Asha and Rafi saab seem to be enjoying themselves. (In those days, Rafi saab was just about making a comeback – which is another reason I’m posting this song). Like the other songs of the movie, this song was also a big hit at that time.

Experienced Nasir Hussain followers will see the duet “roothna-manaana” trend here (well, sort of). I’ve seen it in many movies – Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Dil Deke Dekho, Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, Phir Wohi Dil Laaya Hoon, Teesri Manzil, Caravan, Pyar Ka Mausam, Yaadon Ki Baarat – and later in Zamaane Ko Dikhaana Hai. Even in Tahir Hussain’s Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.

I love this song and I am quite sure you will like it too. It is a pleasant enough song to listen to and may pep up your spirits, like it always does mine.

Song-Ye ladka haaye Allah kaisa hai deewaana (Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin)(1977) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Rafi, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

hmm
ye ladka haye Allah
kaisa hai deeewana
kitna mushqil hai tauba
isko samjhaana
ki dheere dheere dil
beqaraar hota hai
hotey hotey hotey
pyaar hotaa hai

hahahaha
Kya hua?

ye ladka haye Allah
kaisa hai deeewaana
kitna mushqil hai tauba
isko samjhaana
ki dheere dheere dil beqaraar hota hai
hotey hotey hotey
pyaar hotaa hai
ho o o
ye ladka haye Allah
kaisa hai deeewaana

I love you!
What?
I love you!
You love me?
hmm ?

hum ne to itna dekha
hum ne to itna seekha
dil ka sauda hotaa hai
sauda zindagi ka
ho
hum ne to itna dekha
hum ne to itna seekha
dil ka sauda hotaa hai
sauda zindagi ka
milte hi kaise koi
hotaa hai deewaana
kitna mushqil hai tauba
isko samjhaana
ki dheere dheere dil beqaraar hota hai
hotey hotey hotey
pyaar hotaa hai
ho ye ladka haay Allaah kaisa hai deewaana

ho saktaa hai dekho na
samjho mitti ko sonaa
pal bhar ka hansna ho jaaye
jeevan bhar ka ronaa
haan
ho saktaa hai dekho na
samjho mitti ko sonaa
pal bhar ka hansna ho jaaye
jeevan bhar ka ronaa
dekho jaldi mein kabhi
dil ko na lagaana
kitna mushqil hai tauba
isko samjhaana
ki dheere dheere dil beqaraar hota hai
hotey hotey hotey
pyaar hotaa hai
ho ye ladka haay Allaah kaisa hai deewaana

bholi ho tum kya jaano
ab bhi mujh ko pehchaano
sapnaa tumhaara main hoon
maano ya na maano
bholi ho tum kya jaano
ab bhi mujh ko pehchaano
sapnaa tumhaara main hoon
maano ya na maano
dekho naadaani se mujhe na thukraanaa
nahin to gaati hi rahogi ye taraana
ki dheere dheere dil beqaraar hota hai
hotey hotey hotey
pyaar hotaa hai

Rajaji,
I am interested in the story of HKSKN. But the page is not available in your blog too. This film is a pandora ‘s Box full of hit songs. Now you have opened it, be prepared for the consequences 🙂 . It even has Atul ji’s favourite Qawwali.

Raja, bahut achchi kahani hai. So this is how Raja finally grew up Those were fabulous days. And this is a fabulous song.

That qawwali is my favorite too. Zeenat looks gorgeous in her black outfit and Rishi knew how to rock a qawwali.
