“Jhumru” (1961) was a labour of love by Kishore Kumar. Kishore Kumar wore multiple hats in this movie. He was the producer, director, actor as well as the music director of this movie.
On paper, this movie was a K S Films production and it was directed by Shankar Mukherji. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Madhubala, Anoop Kumar, Chanchal, Sajjan, Polson, Jayant, Anoop Sharma, Minoo, Lalita Pawar, K. N. Singh etc in it.
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. And all these three songs are iconic songs. The song under discussion is a lesser known song in comparison. I in fact heard this song for the first time only just now. But I found this song to be just as good a song as any. In fact, I feel that this song is an outstanding song. It is not an easy song to sing, but Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar have made short work of this difficult to sing song.
The picturisation shows Kishore Kumar and Chanchal playing roadside vendors who sell their wares in typical desi style, viz by badmouthing the wares of the other. The lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri are amusing to listen to and the antics of Kishore Kumar and Chanchal are fun to watch. I in fact initially mistook Chachal for Madhubala. The two sisters had similar physiques and appearances. The picturisation also shows Madhubala and Anoop Kumar, among others.
It is a great song to listen to and watch, even if this song is not all that well known.
