Posted on: June 30, 2012

Today (30 june) is the birth anniversary of Kalyanji, of the Kalyanji Anandji fame. Kalyanji Anandji were one of the most successful music directors from 1950s till 1970s. Many of their songs have gone on to become immortal. This blog has as many as 255 songs composed by them as of now.

On the occasion of Kalyanji’s birthday anniversary, we will discuss a few songs composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Here is a song from “Saheli” (1965). This movie was produced by S C Poddar under the banner of Shree Pictures. The movie was directed by Arjun Hingorani. The movie had Pradeep Kumar, Kalpana, Rajendra Nath, Vijaya Choudhury, Murad, Pratima Devi, Sulochana Chatterjee, Johny Whisky, Polson, Tun Tun, Jankidas etc in it.

This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised as a stage song on Kalpana and others. Shamim Jaipuri is the lyricist.

“Been” music, which was first introduced in “Naagin” (1954), where Kalyanji was associated as an assistant, is used in this song as well.

The lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

aa aa
aa aa aaaa
oh o o o o
oh o o o o
oh o o o o

kaahe tu been bajaaye sapere
kaahe tu been bajaaye
kaahe tu been bajaaye sapere
kaahe tu been bajaaye
bairi lagi mein aur lagaaye
kaun tujhe samjhaaye sapere
kaahe tu been bajaaye

ab main tose preet nibhaaun
ya ke jag ki reet nibhaaun
oo oo
ab main tose preet nibhaaun
ya ke jag ki reet nibhaaun
jag roke aur man behkaaye
kaahe tu been bajaaye sapere
kaahe tu been bajaaye sapere
kaahe tu been bajaaye

naachat naachat gir gir jaaun
kaise natkhat ko samjhaaun
ho o o
naachat naachat gir gir jaaun
kaise natkhat ko samjhaaun
bedardi tohe laaj na aaye
kaahe tu been bajaaye sapere
kaahe tu been bajaaye
bairi lagi mein aur lagaaye
kaun tujhe samjhaaye sapere
kaahe tu been bajaaye

75% another female dancer holding the been is Sheela Ramachandra(I am able to identify the dancer with the help of Geta ji `s Memsaasbstory-Artiste Gallery).I request Greta ji to confirm the correctness of the fact.

The snake charmer tune of the “been” done by using a new type of organ at that time called “clavioline”.
