“Kaarwaan” (1956) was a B grade movie which was a Shakkar Production presentation. It was directed by Rafiq Rizvi. Mahipal, Shakila, Hiralal, Yashodhara Katju etc were the lead actors in this movie.
This forgotten movie had some wonderful songs in it that were unfortunately forgotten alongwith the movie.
Here is a superb song from this movie. It is sung by Lata. Tanveer Naqvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S Mohinder.
Only the audio of this song is available. I guess that the song was picturised on Shakila. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this obscure movie.
Song-Ae raat ke musaafir pal bhar ko dam to le le (Kaarwaan)(1956) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Tanveer Naqvi, MD-S Mohinder
Lyrics
Ae raat ke musaafir
pal bhar ko dam to le le
hote hain do ghadi ke
ye zindaki ke mele
ae raat ke musaafir
behosh hai zamaana
har koi bekhabar hai
khwaabon ki waadiyon mein
soyi huyi sahar hai
ae chaandni ke maalik
unko jaga na dena
taaron ki jagmaati shamme bujha na dene
dil hi mein
reh na jaayen
armaan hamaare dil ke
ae raat ke musaafir
chanda kasam hai tujhko
teri hi chaandni ki
chanda kasam hai tujhko
teri hi chaandni ki
kuchh der aur thham jaa aa
apni jagah pe jam jaa
apni jagah pe jam jaa
kis baat ka kabhi tu
hone na de sawere
ye raat bhar jo hamne
maangi hai zindagi se
ae raat ke musaafir
pal bhar qadam jo le
hote hain do ghadi ke
ye zindagi ke mele
ae raat ke musaafir

Very haunting voice and effects. Only some times she is able to sing this way. Maybe every song does not require such tratment

What beautiful nagma by Naqvisaab. I love each words of his composition. In my younger age I never understood the words “raat ke musafir” doesn’t mean a humanbeing but a chand (moon).
