Today (15th august 2012) is Indian’s Independence day. It was on this day in 1947 that India gained independence from Britain.
This is the fifth Independence day that this blog is celebrating. Four Republic days have also been celebrated. We in this blog have discussed lots of patriotic songs on these occasions and most well known patriotic songs have already been discussed.
It does not mean that we have run out of patriotic songs for the occasion. Not at all. We have enough songs for the occasion.
Here is a song from “Gaaon” (1947). This song is sung by Geeta Dutt, Mukesh and chorus. D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by Khemchand Prakash.
This song is the very first duet ever sung by Geeta Dutt and Mukesh.

*Before the British arrived in India. India was much more literate and wealthier than the Europeans.
* when Babur came to India and went back he took almost 140 elephants with goods, furniture, gold, cotton and precious gems with him.
*According to an estimate of 1638, the Mogul court of India had accumulated a treasure equivalent to $1.8 billion, more than ten times those of his contemporary Louis XIV of France.
* the early period of second Millennium India was rich in precious stones, textiles, dye, carpets and spices; The western used the term as a “the riches of the Indies”. Of course, it was these same riches which led Columbus (and others) to seek a sea route to Asia, resulting in the “discovery” of America.
* If it wasn’t the Hinduism (peace is a mantra) our kings would have invade the Europe and take over the whole world.
For sure, the land of India is the golden.
