Watan ki maati haath mein le kar
Posted on: August 15, 2012
Today (15th august 2012) is Indian’s Independence day. It was on this day in 1947 that India gained independence from Britain.
This is the fifth Independence day that this blog is celebrating. Four Republic days have also been celebrated. We in this blog have discussed lots of patriotic songs on these occasions and most well known patriotic songs have already been discussed.
It does not mean that we have run out of patriotic songs for the occasion. Not at all. We have enough songs for the occasion.
Here is a song from “Gaaon” (1947). This song is sung by Geeta Dutt, Mukesh and chorus. D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by Khemchand Prakash.
This song is the very first duet ever sung by Geeta Dutt and Mukesh.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Mr Sadanand Kamath.
Song-Watan ki maati haath mein lekar (Gaaon)(1947) Singers-Geeta Dutt, Mukesh, Lyrics-D N Madhok, MD-Khemchand Prakash
Chorus
Geeta Dutt + Mukesh
Lyrics
watan ki maati haath mein lekar
maathe tilak lagaa lo
watan ki maati haath mein lekar
maathe tilak lagaa lo
jis maati ne janam diyaa
us maati ke gun gaa lo
jis maati ne janam diyaa
us maati ke gun gaa lo
watan ki maati haath mein lekar
maathe tilak lagaa lo
maati ho ke sonaa ugle
ae ae ae ae ae
maati ho ke sonaa ugle
ye sonaa wo sonaa hai
ye sonaa wo sonaa hai
chor churaaye daaku loote
khatam kabhi nahin honaa hai
chor churaaye daaku loote
khatam kabhi nahin honaa hai
aisi pyaari daulat ko
o o o o
aisi pyaari daulat ko
tan-man se apnaa lo
jis maati ne janam diyaa
us maati ke gun gaa lo
jis maati ne janam diyaa
us maati ke gun gaa lo
gairon ne baahar se aa ke
ae ae ae
gairon ne baahar se aa ke
ae ae ae
pet bhare yahaan apne
pet bhare yahaan apne
sukh ki neend sadaa vo soye dekhe sukh ke sapne
sukh ki neend sadaa vo soye dekhe sukh ke sapne
band karo ab ghar ke dwaare
ae ae ae
band karo ab ghar ke dvaare
ghar ko aur sambhaalo
jis maati ne janam diyaa
us maati ke gun gaa lo
jis maati ne janam diyaa
us maati ke gun gaa lo

*Before the British arrived in India. India was much more literate and wealthier than the Europeans.
* when Babur came to India and went back he took almost 140 elephants with goods, furniture, gold, cotton and precious gems with him.
*According to an estimate of 1638, the Mogul court of India had accumulated a treasure equivalent to $1.8 billion, more than ten times those of his contemporary Louis XIV of France.
* the early period of second Millennium India was rich in precious stones, textiles, dye, carpets and spices; The western used the term as a “the riches of the Indies”. Of course, it was these same riches which led Columbus (and others) to seek a sea route to Asia, resulting in the “discovery” of America.
* If it wasn’t the Hinduism (peace is a mantra) our kings would have invade the Europe and take over the whole world.
For sure, the land of India is the golden.
Happy Independent day to all.
