Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Koi bataaye samajh mein na aaye

Posted on: August 14, 2012

Just a little while ago Peevesie’s mom was informed by her son (Peevesie’s brother) that today (14 august) was Johny Lever’s birthday. I was aware of this fact, but I was not aware of any songs for the occasion. Peevesie’s mom not only informed me about this fact but she quickly sent me the lyrics of a song too which is picturised on Johny Lever.

Fortunately it is a light hearted comedy soon as appropriate for Johny Lever and not a serious song the likes of which we have often witnessed someone like Jagdeep lip sync in Hindi movies.

This song is from “Chaalbaaz” (1989). As things stand, I have seen this movie, but I did not remember much of the movie and this song.

This light hearted song has Sridevi brought to an “ojha” viz Johny Lever to rid her of the bhoot that allegedly posseses her. Johny Walker’s dress and make up is quite hilarious which is suitable grotesque and that makes him look more like an American Indian than a desi Indian ghostbuster.

The picturisation of this song is hilariously funny as well. The song is sung by Johny Lever, Kavita Krishnamurty and Suresh Wadkar. But the video does not contain the portion sung by Suresh Wadkar (for Rajnikant presumably).

The song is written by Anand Bakshi. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Johny Lever was a mimicry artist of 1980s. He got his break in Hindi movies as a comedian in Hindi movies thanks to his mimicry programmes performed on stages. This song was perhaps the very first occasion when Johny Lever appeared in a Hindi movie song. Here is wishing a happy birthday and many happy returns of the day to Johny Lever.

Thanks Peevesie’s mom,
I just read about his birthday thru my facebook friend Singer Shabbir Kumar who wished him well.
And I was thinking, hope Atulji remember about his b’day.
But here we are…

The video link does not have Suresh Wadkar part. Do you have any other link where Suresh Wadkar portion is available ?

Belated happy birthday to Johnny Lever. I used to like him quite a lot before he began chewing up the scenery in his later movies. A very talented guy, no doubt. And could keep you in splits with his mimicry acts.

Thanks for remembering his birthday, Peevesie’s mom (or maybe I should thank Peevesie’s brother :-)). Good to see this post.

Madam ji
you are right, Suresh wadkar indeed gave his playback for this song as per the below link to the vinyl records
https://www.bollywoodvinyl.in/products/chaalbaaz
I doubt the record company afterwards replaced Suresh wadkar by Sudesh bhosle,(which is a common practice of those days, recording a song in one singer`s voice, and afterwards erasing original voice and recording the same song with some saleable singer`s voice,
Remember Alka Yagnik and Suresh wadkar`s voice got replaced by some other singers`s voices in Aamir Khan`s DIL(and again after singer`s objections, reversing the same thing
( and other examples Rahul Roy`s Aashiquie and many more examples are there, At the given point I don`t remember, But I remember reading )details of such cases in the film magazines in those days, ……..
