“Elaan” (1947) was a Mehboob Production movie. It was produced and directed by Mehboob Khan. The movie had Surendra, Munawwar Sultana, Zebunissa, Agha, Shahnawaz, W. M. Khan, Leela Mishra, Rita, Shaheda, Subhasini, Reehan, Mohammad Afzal etc in it.
As many as five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from the movie.
When I heard this song for the first time, I just listened to the audio while going through the lyrics. I guessed that it was a mujra song. But it sounded like quite a lively mujra where the words become quite interesting and witty, especially in the last stanza of the song. And all that made me curious to see the picturisation.
When I watched the picturisation, I realised that the song was indeed a mujra song. But I was unable to identify the artist. I request our knowledgeable reader to help identify her. By now I am convinced that this mujra song should be included in the hall of fame of mujra songs.
Zohrabai Ambalewaali has sung this song with elan. Zia Sarhadi’s lyrics are the main reason why this song has left such a lasting impression on me after listening to this song just twice.
