“Alibaba” (1940) was a Sagar Film Company movie. This by now forgotten movie was directed by Mehboob Khan. The movie had Surendranath, Sardar Akhtar, Ghulam Mohammed, Waheedan Bai etc in it. Waheedan Bai was the mother of Nimmi and Waheedan Bai’s elder sister Jyoti was married to G M Durrani.
One song from this movie has been discussed in the past. Here are the details of this movie that Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia, had given in a comment to that post:
ALIBABA -1940 was a Sagar Film Co. presentation. It was directed by none other than Mehboob Khan and MD was Anil Biswas.
Although the story is same as we all have read in our childhood, taking cinematic liberty the producers made some changes.
Addition of Zabba-the slave Girl who works at Alibaba’s brother Cassim’s house and is a spy of Abu Hassan-the chief of 40 thieves and making Marjina a slave girl of Cassim(instead of Alibaba in the original story) who is in love with Alibaba’s son are some changes.
I am not repeating the story-too well known-here, but this film depicted a slightly different version than the original Arabian Nights story.
Surendra and Waheedan Bai had played the roles of Alibaba’s son and Marjina respectively in this film. Alibaba’s role was done by Gulam Mohd. and Abu Hasan was Jagdish Koopal.This film was produced in Punjabi language also as ‘Alibaba’ only.
This song is sung by Surendranath and Waheedan Bai and the song was naturally picturised on them as well.
Safdar Aah Sitapuri wrote the lyrics and music was composed by Anil Biswas.

Excellent and very popular duet by immortal great actor singer Surendranathji and Madam Wahidan baiji. MD Anil da created a sensation by introducing a western style music and the song became a craze.
