“Godaan”(1963) was based on Munshi Premchand’s novel of the same name. The movie was a Jetley Films Production. It was directed by Trilok Jetley. The movie had Mehmood, Kamini Kaushal, Raj Kumar, Shobha Khote, Tuntun, Shashikala, Madan Puri, Ravikant, Manhar Desai, Trilok Jetley, Nand Kishore, Ragini, Bipin Gupta etc in it.
As many as five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from “Godaan” (1963).
This song is a bidaai song. It is sung by Lata which plays in the background as the bride is leaving her home to go to her sasuraal. I am unable to identify the actors playing the married couple though I can identify the mother of the bride as Kamini Kaushal. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify others in the picturisation.
The song is sung by Lata. Lalji Pandey, better known as Anjaan is the lyricist. He made his debut as a lyricist in Hindi movies with this movie.
Music is composed by Pt Ravishankar.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)
chali aaj gori
piyaa ki nagariya
chali aaj gori
piyaa ki nagariya
mangiyaan mein sendoor
odhe chunariya
mangiyaan mein sendoor
odhe chunariya
chali aaj gori piyaa ki nagariya
dulaaron se paali
ye komal kali si
dulaaron se paali
ye komal kali si
chhipi maa ke aanchal mein
jaisi dari si
wahi aaj jaaye paraayi nagariya
ankhiyon mein aansoo hain
saanson mein aandhi
ankhiyon mein aansoo hain
saanson mein aandhi
sajan se milan ko sajaniya hai jaati
nainon se thham thham ke barse badariya
chali aaj gori
piyaa ki nagariya

Atul ji,
Lalji Pandey aka Anjaan started with Golkonda ka Qaidi-1954,in which he wrote 5 out of 8 total songs.
Then came Sau ka note,Tanakha,Maya nagari Mai Baap,Sair e Paristan,Teerthyatra,Saahil,Jali note,Lady of the Lake,Lambe Haath,Faulad etc. Then in 1963 came GODAN with which he actually established himself firmly in the industry.

I think Anjaan started during mid 50s, and had written for almost 20 movies before this one.
