Aao baithho baat suno

Today (7 september) is G M Durrani’s death anniversary. G M Durrani, who began his playback career in 1930s, was active till 1950s. He had become so popular by early 1940s that the then up and coming Rafi regarded G M Durrani as his idol.
I am surprised to find that hardly any details are available about G M Durrani on internet today and the little details available are all cut and paste items from the same sources. Even information about his date of birth and date of death are not available. I know that today is his death anniversary because I got this detail from Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopedia.
This blog has 35 songs sung by him. He was the major singer of the 1940s and I would love to see G M Durrani complete his century of songs in the blog.
Here is a song from “Maang” (1950). This movie was a New Light Film production. It was directed by Saghir Usmani. The movie had Zia, Wasti, Mubarak, Ramola, Amar, Pratima, Malhotra, Leela Pande, Basu, Hemlata etc in it. Most of these names ring no bells today.
This song is a delightful duet which is sung by G M Durrani and Lata. Saghir Usmani, the director of the movie is the lyricist of this song. Ghulam Mohammad is the music director.
Only the audio of this song is available and so I am not aware about the picturisation of this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

I think Kamath ji or Sudhir ji has already posted detailed info about Durrani,on this Blog,sometime back.
