“Aurat” (1953) was a Verma Films Production. It was produced by Munshi Ram Verma and directed by Bhagwandas Verma. The movie had Premnath, Bina Rai, Purnima, Ullhas, Hiralal, Roopmala, Nazirabai, Mirabai, Devkishan, Mirza, S. Pratap, Shanta Patel, Nazir Kashmiri, Rajkishore etc in it.
Here is a “missing the beloved” genre of song from “Aurat” (1953). The song is sung by Lata. The picturisation shows Premnath departing on his chariot, leaving Bina Rai Purnima behind.
The picturisation shows Bina Rai repeatedly recahing close to the chariot, that too while walking on feet. Bina Rai Purnima must be an Olympic level walker /runner who could repetedly nearly catch up with Premnath’s powerful two horsepower chariot.
Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

It is Purnima,
I have seen her in Dharam Kanta,Sharafat,Naam,Rajbabbar,Rati Agnihotri starrer Triveni in a grey shade character role
She is Mahesh Bhatt`s aunt or relative, Emran Hashmi`s grand mother ??

This song has brand stamp of S.J.and Hasrat,perfectly sung by Lataji,
Rest is ok.Whenever I listen sad songs sung by lataji,,this song is MUST.
Though I like Dard-e-jigar thehr zara,and Aankhon aankhon mein tumko
chhupa ke dekh liya .. from same film.too.

atulji, thanx for posting this song. somewhere related to this song , i have heard the record of some change in words, probably, not too sure but vaijayantimaala’s film.sur, lay and rhythm also corelation.

Hahaha! If Premnath’s chariot was a ‘two- horse power’ chariot, Bina Rai was fueled by true love! I remember my father mentioning that ‘Aurat’ was loosely based on that Hollywood blockbuster, ‘Samson and Delilah’. Must say that Premnath was quite a handsome, macho man of those times!
