“Dharmatma” (1975) was a Feroz Khan production. This movie had Feroz Khan, Hema Malini, Rekha, Premnath, Imtiaz Khan, Danny Denzongpa, Farida Jalal, Ranjeet, Helen, Madan Puri, Jeevan, Iftekhar,Dara Singh etc in it.
This movie was inspired from Mario Puzo’s “Godfather” (1970). Being a Hindi movie, “Dharmatma” (1975) diluted many aspects of the original while adding many native touches, such as songs and dances etc, for instance. Premnath played the role of Godfather in this movie.
Like most movies, this movie too owes a great deal of its success to its songs. Its songs were quite popular during its time and they remain popular to thhis day.
I find, much to by surprise that only one song from this movie has been discussed in the blog till now and that song is Kya khoob lagti ho badi sundar dikhti ho.
On the occasion of Feroz Khan’s birth anniversary today (25 september), here is another song from “Dharmatma”(1975). This song is sung by Kishore Kumar. It is picturised on Feroz Khan and Hema Malini. The song, like the movie, is picturised on the picturesque locations of Afghanistan.
