“Basant” (1960) was an M P Productions Pvt Ltd production. It was directed by Bibhuti Mitra. The movie had Shammi Kapoor, Nutan, Pran, Johny Walker, Minoo Mumtaz, Kammo, Cuckoo, Murad etc in it.
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is another song from the movie. This song is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. This song has two versions. Both versions are duets which are sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. The lyrics are also virtually the same, except that the third stanza of version I is dispensed with in the other version. Version I is picturised on Shammmi Kapoor and Nutan. Version II has Johny Walker and Nutan lip syncing the song. Shammi Kapoor who is seen riding on the rear of a Jeep, hears this song being sung and gets down from the jeep. He searches for the origin of the song the way old explorers used to search for the origin of rivers, and like them, he finds the source, viz Nutan, and the two reunite in the long shot ! 🙂
