Lyricist AHMED VASI may not click to many people,right,but he was a very learned and qualified writer and poet cum shayar.
Born in Sitapur(UP) on 8-10-1942 he graduated from Lucknow University with English Litterature and started his Law studies.he was very fond of writing poems and gazals.Once he went to see a film along with his friend.That film had music by O.P.Nayyar,Vasi’s favourite composer.In a discussion after the film there was a bet with that friend that one day Vasi will write songs for OPNayyar .
In 1963 he joined Vividh Bharati’s fermaish programme and in no time it was extremely popular due to his prsentation style and a deep knowledge of Hindi films.meanwhile HMV had recorded several of his gazals and marketed them.It so happened that OPNayyar had liked his one Gazal and was on the look out for the shayar.thru a common friend Ahmed Vasi was contacted and OPNayyar himself requested him to write song for his current film ‘Pran jaye par vachan na jaaye’.he wrote one song and gave ti and immediately telephoned his friend to tell him that he had won the bet !.He wrote songs for Taxi driver,Heera moti,kanoon aur mujrim,Ek hi manzil,yatra etc etc.
He has published several books of poems and won many awards too.He is still very active on TV programmes.

Very sad news for Ashaji on passing of her daughter Varsha.
Varsha, was more a journalist than a singer. she was very diligent and a very skillful writer. I’m so saddened that we lost such a fabulous woman.
My deepest sympathy to all the members of her family.

I believe it was two times with the drugs. But this time she use the gun…for sure to reached @ her goal.
