“Bahen” (Sister) was a National Studios Production of 1941. It was directed by Mehboob Khan. The movie had Sheikh Mukhtar, Nalini Jaywant, Harish, Husn Bano, Kanhaiyalal, Swarup Rani, Bhudo Advani, Iqbal Begum, Baby Meena etc in it.
This by now forgotten movie had 12 songs in it which were sung by as many as nine singers.
Here is a song from “Bahen” (1941). It is sung by Bina Kumari and Baby Meena. I have no idea who lip syncs the song in Bina Kumari’s voice, but Baby Meena sings for herself in the picturisation. And this Baby Meena is none other than the same person whom we know as Meena Kumari.
Lyrics of this song were written by Safdar Aah Sitapuri. Music is composed by Anil Biswas.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Mr Sadanand Kamath.
There is a word in the second stanza which has gone undeciphered which has been marked as “patiyaan” (?) in the lyrics. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us the correct word in its place.

The word PATIYAN is correct . In Gujarati we say “Patiyaa padya” ,whiich means the panhti’s ( where he sindoor is applied , the middle part of hairs on head) of apbhransh word is patiya. Here patiya does not mean husband …

My guess about the word “patiyaan? lagaaun’ is that it may be ‘galiyaan lagaaun’ (gale lagaana) based on the action of the female actor hugging Baby Meena while lip syncing these words.
