Mere mehboob shaayad aaj kuchch naaraaz hain mujhse

Posted on: December 16, 2012

“Kitne Paas Kitne Door” (1976), though a recent movie by the standards of this blog, has ended up becoming quite an obscure movie by now. This movie, when it was released in 1976 went unnoticed.

This movie was produced and directed by D S Sultaniya. The movie had Samit Bhanja, Heena Kausar, Utpal Dutt, Anoop Kumar, Rabi Ghosh etc in it and with such “star” cast, it is no wonder that there were few takers for this movie.

But there was a song from this movie that caught the attention of music lovers. Most people listened to the song are loved it without being aawre about the movie this song was from. This song contains the title of the movie in its lyrics though, and that may have helped a few people remember which movie this song was from.

This song is a fantastic song to listen to. It is sung by Chandrani Mukherji. D S Sultaniya is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chand Pardesi.

Only the audio of this song is available and so we have no idea how this song was picturised. That may not be such a bad idea I guess, because who knows, the picturisation could well be far below the level of the song. This song is a superb ghazal, and it may well have been picturised as a mujra in the movie.

I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us more about this movie and about the picturisation of this song.

The lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Mere mehboob shaayad aaj kuchch naaraaz hain mujhse (Kitne Paas Kitne Door)(1976) Singer-Chandrani Mukherji, Lyrics-D S Sultaniya, MD-Chaand Pardesi

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

mere mehboob
shaayad aaj kuchch
naaraaz hain mujhse..
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj kuchch
naraaz hain mujhse..
main kitne
paas hoon
phir bhi
main kitne
paas hoon
phir bhi
woh kitne door hain mujhse
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj kuchch
naaraaz hain mujhse
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj

woh mehfil mein
to aaye hain
magar
chupchaap baitthe hain
aen aen aen
woh mehfil mein ….
tho aaye hain …
magar
chupchaap baitthe hain
jo aashiq
thhe mere
kal tak
na karte
baat ab mujhse
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj kuchch
naraaz hain mujhse
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj

mujhe darr hai
ye unki
berukhi kahin
jaan naa le le
ae ae ae
mujhe dar hai
ye unki
berukhi kahin
jaan naa le le
karoon kyaa
gham judaai ka
sahaa
jaataa nahin mujhse
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj kuchch
naraaz hain mujhse
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj

kabhi mehsoos
hota hai
khushi ke
din bhi aayenge
ae ae ae
kabhi mehsoos
hota hai
khushi ke
din bhi aayenge
haweli jagmagaayegi
mere dilbhar ke aane se
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj kuchch
naaraaz hain mujhse
main kitne paas hoon
phir bhi
main kitne
paas hoon
phir bhi
woh kitne door hain mujhse
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj kuchch
naaraaz hain mujhse
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj

Atulji, Prakashji,
Thank you for reminding this song. Bhool hi gayi thhi ye gaana. Ab kitne saalon baad aap ne yaad karwaa diya. I remember humming it while listening on vividh bharti. I am surprised that I still remember every word of first two stanzas. 🙂 Don’t remember listening to third stanza. Thanks again.

i completely agree with you. after all these years i remembered every word of the song just on seeing the title. there was only an initial hitch regarding the tune but once i got going i went through with ease. unfortunately my problematic internet connection is not allowing the song to play but so what???? ab toh gaana yaad aagaya!!!!
i think ages ago i had seen Chandrani Mukherjee sing this song on Doordarshan’s “Aarohi”

Peevesie’s Momji,
Now you reminded me another thing-Aarohi. I always enjoyed that progman along with Chhaayageet. On the days of these programs my parents were stress free as they knew I would finish my homework without them reminding me even once. 🙂 Guzar gaya wo zamaana kaisa….. Another program I enjoyed was “Darpan”, a program which showed short stories by authors from different parts of India. I think the narrator was Shri Harish Bhimani.

Thanks for throwing Prakash on this beautiful songs. Thanks for leading me to the nostalgic lane. About Chandrani M in her own words:
woh mehfil mein
to aaye hain
magar
chupchaap baitthe hain
chupchaap baitthe hain
jo aashiq
thhe mere
kal tak
na karte
baat ab mujhse
mere mehboob
shaayad aaj kuchch
naraaz hain mujhse……
How prophetic words describing her shortchanged career

Instantly recognisable song. It was played repeatedly on Radio. All stanza are also remembered.

haweli jagmagaayegi
mere ‘ dilbar ‘ ke aane se

‘ dilbhar ‘ and ‘dilbar’ mean different things.

dilbhar – heavy heart with sadness.

Hi Everyone, I remember seeing this movie. It was quite an odd one. It had two stories. One starring Samit Bhanja and Heena Kausar, the story of which I don’t remember. But the next half after interval starred Utpal Dutt who is a greedy man. He somehow gets the newspaper a day earlier. Like tomorrow’s newspaper today. So he starts betting on horses (he knows which one will win) and makes a lot of money. One day he reads about a winning number of a lottery ticket with Rs. 5 Lakhs, and buys that number lottery and wins the prize. But in the same newspaper he misses out on a small piece of news about a man who had died after a massive heart attack following him winning the lottery.
