Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Zubi zubi je l’laime vou

Posted on: March 6, 2013

“An Evening in Paris” (1967) was produced and directed by Shakti Samanta. The movie had Shammi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, K N Singh, Rajendra Nath, Pran, Sarita, David Abraham, M B Shetty, Surendra Nath etc in it.

AS many as seven songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the eighth song from the movie. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised as a club song. On taling a close look, I realised that it was Sharmila Kapoor who figures in the song. Such songs used to be the preserve of Helen those days but those days Sharmila Tagore, among a few others had begen to play roles that were considered bold and daring for leading ladies of Hindi movies those days.

Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composeed by Shankar Jaikishan.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

Song-Zubi zubi je l’laime vou (An Evening in Paris)(1967) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)

zubi zubi je l’laime vou oo
zubi zubi je l’laime vou
zubi zubi je l’laime vou oo
zubi zubi je l’laime vou
aa gaye
shukriya
o mere meharbaan
sun ke jaana sanam
pyaar ki daastaan
aa gaye shukriya
o mere meharbaan

mera kya haal hai
yeh to na poochhiye
mehfil hai aap ki
mehfil mein baithiye
jaldi hai kaun si
aaye ho door se
zulfon ki chhaaon mein
dam to le leejiye
zubi zubi je l’laime vou oo
zubi zubi je l’laime vou
aa gaye shukriya
o mere meharbaan

aaye mere liye
mujh pe ehsaan hai
dil to kya jaan bhi
tum pe qurbaan hai
ek baar pyaar se
mujh ko bhi dekh lo
zindagi mein mera
yeh hi armaan hai
zubi zubi je l’laime vou oo
zubi zubi je l’laime vou
aa gaye shukriya
o mere meharbaan
sun ke jaana sanam
pyaar ki daastaan
aa gaye shukriya
o mere meharbaan
zubi zubi je l’laime vou oo
zubi zubi je l’laime vou oo
zubi zubi je l’laime vou

Sharmila Tagore had worn a bikini in this movie! She has a double role. With this movie, the thick wall separating the virtuous, chaste and simple saree clad heroine and the glamorous, ‘westernized’, cigarette smoking, and sexily dressed ‘bad girl’ came crumbling down. Today, the line dividing the heroine and a vamp is a thin blurred line…
By the way, the words of the song are…”Zubi zubi je l’aime vous..” ‘Je l’aime vou’ means ‘I love you’ in French.

This is one of my favorite movies and favorite soundtracks.

Sharmila looks simply breathtaking in this movie.
