“Maa Baap” (1944) is a movie about which very little is known today, no matter if there are sites that claim to give you “All about Maa Baap (1944),view video clips, reviews, story, stills, trailers, songs, wallpapers, synopsis, user comments, news,cast,crew..” about the movie. All that I have been able to gather about this movie is that it had Nazir Khan, Veena, Rajkumari Shukla, Yakub in it.
Here is a song from “Maa Baap” (1944). It is a bidaai song and it is sung by Amirbai Karnataki. The lyrics by Roopbani are quite moving indeed. Music is composed by A R Qureshi, also known as Ustad Alla Rakha Khan, who was the father of Ustad Zakir Hussain.
Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to guess how this forgotten song was picturised in the forgotten movie. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.
Song-Aaj karle ji bhar ke singaar (Maa Baap)(1944) Singer-Amirbai Karnataki, Lyrics-Roopbani, MD-A R Qureshi
Lyrics
Aaj karle ji bhar ke singaar
tohe jaana hai
aaj karle ji bhar ke singaar
tohe jaana hai
ye vidhi ke khel baawri
likhe hain jisne lekh
ye vidhi ke khel baawri
likhe hain jisne lekh
kya dikhlaaye teri kismat
aage chalkar dekh
kya dikhlaaye teri kismat
aage chalkar dekh
dekh paraaye ghar ki bahaar
dekh paraaye ghar ki bahaar
aaj karle ji bhar ke singaar
tujhe jaana hai
aaj karle ji bhar ke singaar
tujhe jaana hai
ham gauyen hain
kuchh na bolen
ham gauyen hain
kuchh na bolen
jo le jaaye uski holen
jo le jaaye uski holen
wahaan ke dukh ko sukh samajh kar
wahaan ke dukh ko sukh samajh kar
jeewan wahin guzaar
haan
jeewan wahin guzaar
aaj karle ji bhar ke singaar
tujhe jaana hai
aaj karle ji bhar ke singaar
tujhe jaana hai

Very nicely worded bidaai song. Unlike other filmy bidaai songs in which there are lamentation and hopes for the better life, in this song, the mother is psychologically preparing her daughter to adjust to her new environment in her post-marriage life.
I get to hear the word ‘guzaar’ instead of ‘guzaaren’.
