Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Wo din yaad karo

Posted on: April 1, 2013

“Wo Din Yaad Karo” (1971) was produced and directed by K Amarnath. The movie had Nanda, Sanjay Khan, Shashikala, Mehmood, Madan Puri, Rajan Haksar, Tuntun, Dhumal, Wasti etc in it.

This movie was by and large forgotten and even its songs were not heard all that much, because that year had seen a bumper crop of outstanding songs. I have discussed the list of the top songs of that year in this writeup.

Going through the great songs of 1971 simply boggles one’s mind. The songs that failed to find a place in the chart were often great songs in their own rights but they were elbowed out for various reasons.

The reasons why “Wo Din Yaad Karo” (1971) songs failed to compete are not very difficult to fathom, especially with the benefit of hindsight. 🙂 This movie had Sanjay Khan as the hero and an ageing ( already aged, in fact) Nanda and the new generation movie watchers had no time for them.

Moreover, those were the days of Kishore Kumar as the male playback singer and R D Burman as the music directors. Other male playback singers and music directors, no matter what they sang and composed found themselves struggling to compete against Kishore Kumar and R D Burman.

Now, more than four decades later, one can savour even the less popular songs of those days without feeling the need to make comparisons.

Here is the title song of “Wo Din Yaad Karo””(1971). This song in fact has two versions. Male version is sung by Rafi and the female version by Lata. Both these versions are picturised on Sanjay Khan and Nanda.

Annad Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

With this song, which she specially chose to send for the occasion, Khyati Bhatt now has 300 lyrics contributions in the blog. It is undoubtedly a big achievement. She becomes the third triple centurion lyrics contributor to the blog with this song. I take this opportunity to congratulate her. Unlike cricket, there is no restrictions in the quantity of songs contributions in the blog, so I hope that she, as well as other contributors, will continue to notch up multiple centuries and even thousands as our musical bandwagon continues on its onward journey.

ujhad gayin bas sapnon ki galiyaan
bhool gaye ho tum waade kasme
tod din saari pyaar ki rasmen

Hullo Khyatiben
what a song to bring up your 300! congratulations.
today i heard it after a long time. actually this is a favourite on “Sakhi Saheli” on Vividh Bharati. but of course its only 2day that i came to know of its movie name. actually one shd not say that Nanda had aged diruing this movie. she must have been in her early 30s. like Kareena or Rani Mukherjee of the modern times. its just that the ladies of those times concentrated on Indian clothing and wore make up that made them look older and also i think they never bothered about physical fitness and were more concerned about how well they could Cry (most of the times) meaning how well they emoted.

First to Atulji, backbone of our blog, without whose support, everything would have crumbled. Atulji’s support and encouragement are the major factors for my nonstop journey of sixteen months and eleven days. This blog, which I call as “Aging Musically” 🙂 has always kept me young, energetic, happy, creative… I am thankful to him for giving me the opportunity to be one of the contributor and part of his band wagon.
Sudhirji, Arunji & Sadandji,

Thanks for all your kind words and encouraging me by your comments and informative write ups, which always kept me “moving”. I may have missed few of your posts while on vacation and due to lack of internet availability around that time. Otherwise, Sudhirji’s posts on celebrations (festivals, blog ) Sadanandji’s NFS series and info on artists, Arunji’s selection of a special topic and then choosing those best suitable songs on that topic…. everything just too perfect to move my enthusiasm up. Thank you again for spending your valuable time and sharing your knowledge with all of us.
Nitinbhai,
Thanks for the kind words and now, we are waiting for the fastest triple century by a contributor on this blog. 🙂 (Correct me if I am wrong, please)
Avinashji,

Yes, I requested Atulji to post this song by two GIANTS of our Hindi Cinema, for this special day. Your selection of rare songs, forgotten gems and “never heard melody before” has always created a curiosity in me to find more melodious songs. Thank you for all your support and keeping eye on my number of songs. 🙂
Peevesie’s Mom ji,

Thanks for the words of appreciations. Nanda must be 32 when the film was released and like Atulji, I also felt that she looked little old. But your explanation is also valid.
Paresh ji,

First of all, let me beg your apology for my mistake of not sending you the “thank you” note for providing me the link of Radio Ceylone. Jahaan tak mujhe yaad hai, maine aap ko likha thha ki jo link aapne bheji hai, wo USA mein nahin chalti hai. I may have missed your reply to that query. Can you please send me the link of that song, so I can rectify my mistake?
Thank you for your kind words and providing all of us the valuable info about Hindi Cinema.
Prakasbhai,

Ab aapse kya kahoon aur kya likhoon! Pehle to maafi mangti hoon. Pata nahin ye meri chori karne ki aadat kab jaayegi 😉
Kabhi aap race mein haar jaate ho, to kabhi main. Ye saabit karta hai ki hamaari pasand kitni milti julti hain (Remember the Shashi Kapoor’s dialogue- Hamaare khayalaat kitne milte jhulte hain, from movie Trishul)
Thanks for your encouraging words and keeping me updated with how many songs we have lost to each other. Hope this number doesn’t go high like the price of gold 🙂
BTW, waiting for two more songs from you for a special celebration- unbreakable record of first contributor in sending lyrics category to reach the milestone of 500 songs. 🙂
Thank You again to everybody again for your support and encouragement.
