“Chitralekha” (1941) was produced and directed by Kidar Sharma. This movie, which was based on a Bhagwati Charan Verma novel of the same name had Mehtab in title role with Nandrekar, A S Gyani, Rajendra , Monica Desai , Ram Dulari, Leela Mishra, Ganpatrai Premi and Bharat Bhushan (making his debut in Hindi movies) etc also there in the movie.
This movie was a box office success. Kidar Sharma remade the movie with the same title in 1964. Though “Chitralekha” (1964) was made on a lavish scale, it failed to replicate the success of “Chitralekha” (1941).

Here is the third song from “Chitralekha” (1941). It is sung by Ram Dulaari. Kidar Sharma is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ustaad Jhande Khan.
Only the audio of this song is avaialable, but seeing that Ram Dulaari’s name figures in the cast, one can guess that the song was picturised on her as well.
The lyrics are hard hitting and this song is one of the earliest example of a “remonstrating with the Almighty” genre of song in Hindi movies.
