“Majboor” (1948) was a Bombay Talkies Production. It was directed by Nazir Ajmeri. The movie had Shyam, Sohan, Amir Banu, Munawwar Sultana, Indu, Shivraj etc in it.
This movie had come at a stage when the Hindi movie industry as well as the nation of India itself was at a stage of major transitions. Old order had changed and was giving way to the new.
Lata was a new struggling female singer those days. Ghulam Haider saw great potential in her and predicted big things for her. It was under Ghulam Haider’s music direction that Lata sang her first solo hit song which was Dil mera todaa in “Majboor” (1948).
It was also in “Majboor” (1948) that Lata first paired up with Mukesh to sing a duet. Subsequently, they would end up singing a grand total of 156 duets in nearly three decades.
This blog has 116 of these Mukesh Lata duets and it is a matter of time before we will have the remainders of their duets too.
Here is the very first Mukesh Lata duet ever ! This song is “Angrezi Chhora chala gaya” from “Majboor” (1948). Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to say how this song was picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the picturisation of this song.

derubala ji is absolutely right.
When Viju Shah delivered the chartbuster ” Tu cheej badi hai mast mast”,in Mohra-1994, the late Nusrat fateh ali khan accused him for stealing his tune in sufi song-Dum mast. That time Khayyam proved that the Pakistani singer had himself lifted that tune from 1948 Lata-mukesh duet-‘ Ab darne ki koi baat nahi,Angrezi chhora chala gaya’,composed by Ghulam Hyder for Majboor 1948 !!!

some how this tune reminds me ” tu chize badi hai mast mast..”
This duet is par excellence in lyrics and immortal compositions.
