“Sharbati Aankhen” (1945) is a forgotten movie by now. When I decided to discuss a song from this movie, I looked for its details on internet and failed to find much. Then I noticed that a post of this blog is also listed by google as a source of information for this movie. I clicked that link, I found that we in this blog have discussed two songs from this movie and our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh has shared information about this movie with us which remains the most comprehensive and detailed information available on this movie on internet. Here is what he has to say about this movie:
SHARBATI ANKHEN(1945),a Wadia Movietone film was produced by Aspi Irani and directed by Ramchandra Thakur. Music was by Firoz Nizami and lyrics were by Tanvir Naqvi, Pt.Indra and Pt.Balam.
The cast included T.R.Rajkumari(heroine), Ishwarlal(hero), Vanmala, Agha, Firoz Dastur, Harish, Kelkar, Aftab, Rajkumari Shukla, Sumati Gupte etc.
The story of Sharbati Ankhen revolved round a middle class girl and a very rich boy, whose family owed its riches to the father of the girl’s sacrifices for the grandfather of the boy. However, not knowing this , there is the customary resistence to this love story. Only towards the end the secret is revealed and all is well. Vanmala, a noted actress in those days had a very small role in the film.
Rafi, then a struggling playback singer had got a big break in this movie where he got to sing more than one solo song for the first time in his career. Before this movie, Rafi had got to sing only two solos, one in “Pehle Aap”(1944) and one in “Hamaara Sansaar” (1945). In “Sharbati Aankhen” (1945), Rafi got to sing as many as three solos. Two of these songs have been discussed in the past. Here is the third Rafi song from this movie.
Tanveer Naqvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Feroz Nizami.
This song, like the other songs of Rafi from this movie disd not become too popular but these songs were the stepping stones to a career that was waiting to blossom a few years down the line.
“Bahut mukhtsar hai meri kahaan“= My tale is quite brief, sang the singer. The singer then went to have a not so mukhtsar career in the world of Hindi movie music. 🙂
Song-Bahut mukhtsar hai hamaari kahaani (Sharbati Aankhen)(1945) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Tanveer Naqvi, MD-Feroz Nizami
Lyrics
bahut mukhtsar hai
bahut mukhtsar hai
hamaari kahaani
jawaani muhabbat
muhabbat jawaani
bahut mukhtsar hai
bahut mukhtsar hai
hamaari kahaani
muhabbat se aazaad hai zindagaani
muhabbat se aazaad hai zindagaani
yahi hai
yahi zindagi ki kahaani
jawaani muhabbat
muhabbat jawaani
bahut mukhtsar hai
bahut mukhtsar hai
hamaari kahaani
?? tumse pyaar
mujhko ulfat hai tumse
ke ye baat bhi
ho chuki hai
puraani
puraani
jawaani muhabbat
muhabbat jawaani
bahut mukhtsar hai
bahut mukhtsar hai
hamaari kahaani
na jaane teri baat kyun maanta hai
na jaane teri baat kyun maanta hai
mere dil ne meri to ik bhi na maani
mere dil ne meri to ik bhi na maani
ik bhi na maani
jawaani muhabbat
muhabbat jawaani
bahut mukhtsar hai
bahut mukhtsar hai
hamaari kahaani
tumhaari kasam hai tumhaari badaulat
tumhaari kasam hai tumhaari badaulat
mujhe mil gayi hai nayi zindagaani
jawaani muhabbat
muhabbat jawaani
bahut mukhtsar hai
bahut mukhtsar hai
hamaari kahaani

The line 9 & 10 from the top is :
muhabbat se ‘ aabaad ‘ hai zindagaani
?? tumse pyaar
mujhko ulfat hai tumse
sounds like :
‘ kab ‘ tumse pyaar
mujhko ulfat hai tumse
Also the word in the mukhda should be ‘ mukhtasar ‘ .

Not a huge fan of “heavy” urdu, but love the word “mukhtasar” ever since i heard:
mukhtasar si baat hai, tumse pyar hai, tumharaaaaaa intezaar hai, tummmm pukar lo……
