Posted on: April 24, 2013

“Jeewan Nauka” (1952) was a K and K Production. This movie was directed by K Vembu. The movie had Thikkurissi, B. S. Saroja, Girija etc in it.

Here is a song from this movie. This song is sung by Shamshad Begam and Rafi. Ramesh Gupta is the lyricist. Music is composed by Pt Govindram.

Here is this forgotten gem from a forgotten movie as a tribute to Shamshad Begam who left for the heavenly abode on 23 april 2013. May her soul rest in peace.

Song-O dil mein basaane waale nainon se hamen kyun door kiya (Jeewan Nauka)(1952) Singers-Shamshad Begam, Rafi, Lyrics-Ramesh Gupta, MD-Pt Govindram

Lyrics

O dil mein basaane waale
nainon se hamen kyun door kiya
nainon se hamen kyun door kiya
O duniya banaane waale
kyun toone hamen majboor kiya
kyun toone hamen majboor kiya

kadam kadam par paap kapat
aur chhalne jaal bichhaaye
andhkaar mein bhatak rahi hoon
rasta kaun dikhaaye
mere dil ka naazuk pyaala
taqdeer ne chaknachoor kiya
taqdeer ne chaknachoor kiya
O duniya banaane waale
kyun toone hamen majboor kiya
kyun toone hamen majboor kiya
nis din raani
yaad mein teri
geet virah ke gaaun
pankh lagaa de koi to pal mein
paas tere udd aaun
main tere milan ko tadpoon
kyaa maine aisa qusoor kiya
kyaa maine aisa qusoor kiya

o dil mein basaane waale
nainon se hamen kyun door kiya
nainon se hamen kyun door kiya

jab paas tumhaare rehte thhe
dukh mein bhi hamen sukh milta thha
bhookhe aur pyaase rehkar bhi
man hansta thha
mukh khilta thha
bhagwaan khata kya meri
kyun piya ko mujhse door kiya
kyun piya ko mujhse door kiya
O duniya banaane waale
kyun toone hamen majboor kiya
kyun toone hamen majboor kiya

o dil mein basaane waale
nainon se hamen kyun door kiya
nainon se hamen kyun door kiya

nis din raani
yaad mein teri
geet ?? ke gaaun

The missing word is ‘ firaaq ‘ .

nis din raani yaad mein teri
geet firaaq ke gaaun

Remember Firaaq Gorakhpuri ?

Nahm ji, Atul ji,

IMHO, the word here is ‘viraeh’ (विरह).

nis din raani yaad mein teri
geet viraeh ke gaaun

‘viraeh’ is similar in meaning with ‘firaaq’ – separation, loneliness, anxiety

However, ‘viraeh’ fits in better with the metre of this verse.

Sir,

I heard the word ‘firaaq’ in the line. I made absolutely sure it is ‘ firaaq ‘.

I suggest you try hearing it once again. I am aware ‘viraah’ would have been easier to sing , but Rafi sahab is hurriedly completing the word ‘firaaq’ and continuing.

Regards.
