We are discussing songs sung by Mukesh, in the year 1947. In this year, the film ‘Do Dil’ was a veritable bonanza for Mukesh, with the music director Pt. Gobindram getting Mukesh to sing for as many as six songs. Three of these songs are solo, and three duets. On this blog, we have already posted the three solo songs, and two of the duets (with Suraiyyaa). Here is the third duet, and the sixth Mukesh song from this film. The accompanying voice in this song is that of Rajkumari.
The film is produced under the banner of Jamuna Productions, Bombay and is directed by Jagdish Sethi. The main star cast includes Motilal, Suraiyyaa, Karan Dewan, Badri Prasad, Gulab, Ram Singh, Shabnam, Sudhir, S Baburao, Khalil. There are 11 songs in this film, all from the pen of D N Madhok.
The song is a very interesting exchange apparently between a husband and a wife. The husband has reached home, under a strong influence of alcohol. He is obviously in a romantic mood, and is requesting favors from the wife. The wife, on the other hand is not in any mood for games and revelry, especially when her beau is stinking with drink. She even mentions it so, in the song.
Ah but I wonder how the song ends on the screen. After such a spirited defense put up by the lady, I wonder what is the outcome. Wish that I could get to see the video clip of this song.
Enjoy this very interesting exchange, that could well have become the signature song for the prohibition movement. 🙂
