If one has to classify songs on the basis of their popularity then we have extremely well known timeless classics on the one end of scale to totally obscure forgotten gems on the other end of the scale. In fact, one can liken them to human settlements, that vary from extremely densely populated to extremely thinly populated. So one can say that iconic well known songs like “Mere sapnon ki raani kab aayegi tu” is like a metropolitan city, say Mumbai. On the other end, we have deserted places that few people know about. Visiting some of these thinly populated/ deserted places could be extremely rewarding. Forgotten songs of Hindi movies are very much like that.
Deserted places are often inaccessible and not known to people, likewise we have songs that few people know about. It takes efforts to dig them out because these songs are not available where we normally search for them, viz at YT or other similar sites. Once we get at these songs are listen to them, we are left wondering how such gems have remained undiscovered. We in this blog take special pleasure in discovering such forgotten gems and bringing them to the notice of discerning music lovers.
These days I am discussing the remaining songs of “Rimjhim” (1949). And look what I have discovered today ! This delightful song is sung by Shamshad Begam. Bharat Vyas is the lyricist. Music is composed by Khemchand Prakash.
It is a song that one will fall in love with from the very first “hear”. What a fantastic song. Few people may be aware of this song, but this song clearly deserves to be much better known.
