“Rimjhim”(1949) was a Hindustan Cine Production movie. It was directed by Ramesh Gupta and Sushil Sahu. The movie had Kishore Sahu, Mubarak, Ramola, Mohana, Jankidas, A. Shah, Narmada Shanker, Amir Banu, Mumtaz Ali etc in it.
Here is what Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia, has to say about this movie:
RIMJHIM(1949), a Hindusthan Chitra film, was produced by Kishor Sahu, who also did the story, screenplay and dialogues. His younger brother Sushil Sahu and Ramesh Gupta directed the film. Music was by Khemchand Prakash and the lyricists were Bharat Vyas, P L Santoshi, Kumud Tripathi( who later did comedian’s roles in many films, the notable being, Apradhi Kaun), and Moti B.A.
The story was that Rammo(Ramola) runs away from her house to avoid her marriage to a fat man she did not like, in a Man’s attire. She meets Kamal(Kishor Sahu) who helps her and marries her after few reels. The niece of their employer(Mubarak),named Mona(Mohana) declares her love for Kamal, creating a love triangle.
This was a musical comedy, romance film, which included some very classic songs from Shamshad Begum.
This movie had ten songs in it. Only four songs from this movie were available on YT till a few days back. Now as many as eight songs from “Rimjhim” (1949) have been covered in the blog. That leaves two songs, which is basically one song with two versions.
This song, which few people may have heard (because it was not available on YT) appears to be a song of great historical importance. Reason being, this song has the voice of Kishore Kumar in it. Kishore Kumar had made his debut as a solo playback singer in “Ziddi” (1948) just one year back. It is popularly believed that it took Kishore Kumar a few years time to come out of the influence of K L Saigal, and secondly, it is believed that Kishore Kumar only sang for Dev Anand and himself for the next several years.
This song dismantles these myths. Listening to this song, we find that Kishore Kumar had come into his own by this time. This is the usual Kishore Kumar voice in this song that we are so familiar with by now. And in this movie he sings for Kishore Sahu, his namesake.
It is a delightful song in two parts. Part I is sung by Kishore Kumar and Shamshad Begam and part II has the additional voice of Mohana as well. From the storyline, it is clear that the song is picturised on Kishore Sahu, Ramola and (in part II of the song) Mohana.
P L Santoshi is the lyricist of this great song. Khemchand Prakash is the music director. We are so indebted to Khemchand Prakash for giving Kishore Kumar his first big break in “Ziddi” (1948). We need to feel even more indebted to him, seeing what a big opportunity he gave to Kishore Kumar in these two songs in “Rimjhim”.
Here is this rare and forgotten song, which deserves to be counted among one of the more memorable songs sung by Kishore Kumar.
with this song, “Rimjhim” (1949) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Atulji,
Great find. I can imagine to what great lengths you must have gone to ferret out this rare gem. The great thing that since you did not find it on the You Tube; what to do. What best than upload it yourself. Sometimes the boss has to show the way. Great going. Thanks
