We continue to traverse the year 1950 for film songs by Mukesh. This year saw 36 songs sung by him, being released. 24 of these songs are already represented here. This post brings up the 25th song from that year.
This was the 10th year of his career, having made his debut with the film ‘Nirdosh’ in 1941, singing under the music direction of Ashok Ghosh. By the time 1949 came to an end, he had already completed his first century of songs. As per the available records, by the end of 1949, he had recorded 109 songs. I will remind the readers that this number is as per the printed records of the Geet Kosh. After publication, a few more songs have been identified as being sung by Mukesh. Plus the possibility is open that even more songs may come to light, since there are gaps in the Geet Kosh information that may get filled up as more information continues to become available. As a result of which, the numbers being quoted here may be further incremented.
This song is from the film ‘Preet Ka Geet’. The film is a production from the banner of Kalakaar Chitra, Bombay and is directed by Girish Trivedi. The cast of actors includes Sulochana Chatterjee, Prem Adeeb, Gulab, Shashikala, Kukku, Badri Prasad, Shyam Sundar, M Khanjar, Urvashi etc. The music is by Shyam Babu Pathak. The 11 songs in this film are written by Kavi Pradeep and Premi. This song is penned by Premi. Of the eleven songs in this film, two songs are solo by him, one is a duet with Zohrabai, and the remaining two are sung by Mukesh, Zohrabai and Geeta Dutt. The song in this post is the duet with Zohrabai.
A simple and an endearing exchange between lovers. The simplicity of the words, as well as of the composition, is so lovely. The epithets used by the poet talk about eternal togetherness, just like the river and its banks can never be separated. And neither can exist without the other.
