Another solo by Geeta Dutt to continue the series. Actually it is the same team as the last song from “Sitaaron se Aage “ viz. Majrooh Sultanpuri and S. D. Burman. This happens to be a song not used and excluded song from the film ‘ Paying Guest ’ (1957) It may not have been picturized, as only audio links are available on youtube. Incidently, this is the remaining song from the film to be posted. Another great score is completed with this song.
The song Chaand phir nikla magar tum na aaye is one of my favourite’s which is always associated with this film, which is an enigma to me. Why because I have not seen this film, and had to refer to myswar.com to see what other songs are there. But though they are some more hit and well known songs are here, this Lata song is the one I remember, as having seen on chhayageet on television. I have just now seen the song after a long time and I could recall the complete song with stanza’s from memory. Another similar song is Tera jaana dil ke armaanon ka mit jaana from ‘Anaadi’(1959). Both these Lata solos from ‘Paying Guest” and ‘Anaadi’ have one thing in common, apart from Nutan. They both are stretching Lata’s range to the limits. While this was business as usual for Shankar –Jaikishan, for S. D. Burman it is a rarity. Nevertheless I have loved both these songs from childhood.
Coming back to the song under discussion, it is a endearing tune and rendition by S. D. Burman and Geeta Dutt. It has already become familiar, as I had to listen to it many times to get the words. Still not happy with the stanza’s words, but this is the best I could do. It is a pity that such a song could not be included in the film. This is the only Geeta Dutt song in the film’s score, with 2 Lata solos, two Kishore solos and two Asha-Kishore duets. The song is mentioned in myswar.com, but not in imdb website. Even the name of Geeta Dutt is not appearing in the credits.
Not being used in the film takes nothing away from the beauty of this song, as is the case with this one from “Pyaasa”. The song from “Pyaasa” is among the best of Geeta Dutt, should have been better known. “Srishti ka niyaam hai ke jo dikhtaa hai woh biktaa hai” , as these songs were not seen, so were ignored by the srishti, it seems.

Beautiful write-up, as usual. The song ‘Rasik Balma’ by Lata in Chori Chori also belongs to the class of Chand phir nikla and Tera jana, though it is on Nargis.

Sir,
I found two audio links on youtube, at least one of them said it was excluded from the film. The songs is mentioned in myswar.com, with no such remark. But I checked the imdb website, this song is absent from the list of songs, there are only six songs :

In general, IMDB has a long way to go as far as music database is concerned.
Song is included in Geet Kosh and hence shows up on myswar site.
But it does seem that at some point this song was indeed removed from the movie cause it does not show up on its Vinyl records (the ones available in the market, may be produced later on) anywhere. And my guess would be IMDB is using these Vinyl Records as its source rather than the Geet Kosh.

There is a blog on http://www.geetadutt.com/blog/?p=84 giving a list of Geeta Dutt’s deleted/unreleased songs etc. As per this blog, the song was picturised on Shubha Khote but later deleted from the film.

I used to see Dev Ananand’s film within a week of its release and I distinctly remember having this song in the film,shot on Shubha Khote.
However, if the site http://www.geetadutt.com says that it was removed later on,it must be correct.
if anybody has the original film’s copy,then,may be, the VDO will be possible,otherwise not.

I know that both myswar.com and imbd have incomplete information. That is the reason i check them both, if there is a doubt. I have found some name missing in myswar.com and I find the remaining name from imdb site.
Thanks for the information about the picturization on ‘Shobha Khote’ . Let’s hope the video will find its way to youtube sooner than later.

Thanks for reminding the difference between ‘shubha’ and ‘shobha’. I knew it as ‘shobha’ only. Now I will remember that it is “Shubha Khote” .
