“Black Shadow” (1961) and “Chhatrapati Shivaji” (1961) were alphabetically the next two movies from 1961 that were so far missing from the blog. And these two movies appear just as elusive as “Aflatoon” (1961) that we discussed a couple of days ago.
According to Khyati Bhatt, the songs of these two days were not available online. In case of “Chatrapati Shivaji” (1961), even the details of songs of this movie were not available in HFGK.
As for “Black Shadow” (1961), HFGK tells us that this movie was produced by Paul Productions, Bombay and directed by Madan Mohan Mehra. The movie had Nishi, Manhar Desai, Amrut Rana (Raja), Baburao, Sudha, Ramlal, Roshan, Menka, Naseem, Balraj Kapoor, Jaani Baabu Qawaal, Sheikh etc in it.
The movie had five songs in it. That included a qawwali by Jaani Babu and party viz. Nazar parda wafa parda mohabbat sar basar parda….parda uthha jalwa dikha kabse khada hai deewana tera…”. Looking at the cast, it appears that this song may have been picturised on Jaani Babu himself.
When I searched for the elusive songs of “Black Shadow” (1961), I came across just one song, and what a song it is ! It is like stumbling upon a precious gem.
This song is a duet which is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Sudha Malhotra. It is a teasing song and the lyrics by Naqsh Llayalpuri paints a very vivid picture of the teasing that is going on. Music is composed by Harbans.
Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to guess how this song was picturised. Let us console ourselves by telling ourselves that this song could well be a भैंस song viz BHNS (Better Heard Not Seen) song. 🙂 The audio itself is a gem and it is a fantastic song that deserves to be much better known among music lover instead of lying buried deep in the ocean of Hindi movie music.

One song from the 1952 ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji’ (desh pe marne waale aa…. ) sung by C.Ramchandra and composed by him has been shared with Atul ji on 07.04.2013 !!

Excellent find!!! Now, we have introduced all seven movies of 1961, starting with “B”.
To get help from our knowledgeable readers, I would rewrite the info that I wrote to you in my email.
“Chatrapati Shivaji-61- This movie is listed in HFGK Vol 4 (1961-70). The only info provided is that it was produced by Children’s Film Society, Bombay and was directed by Ram Gabale. (Ram Narayan Gabale according to IMDb under the title Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj-61) Not a single song is listed in HFGK. So, we need someone who can clarify this confusion.
While looking for the song of this movie, I found a movie with the same title from 1952. Even HFGK also has this movie listed in Vol 3 (1951-1960). I am not sure if there were two movies of the same title or not.”

Atulji, if you make a category, BHNS, I am sure many songs will “qualify” for this category. 😆
