Gosh, it simply does not cease. I mean the surprise in coming across absolutely lovely gems, from films one would least expect to. Here is the next Mukesh song from 1950. The film is ‘Hamaari Beti’. Produced and directed by Shobhana Samarth under the banner of Shobhana Pictures, this film was intended to be the launch vehicle for her daughter, Nutan.
Nutan was all of 14 years old when she appeared in this film. Given the cast of actors – Nutan, Shekhar, Baby Tanuja, Moti Lal, Shobhana Samarth, Veera, David, K N Singh, Randhir, Agha, Pramila, Kukku, Ameerbai, Nandani, Master Ratan – it surely seems she is paired opposite to Shekhar. As noted in an earlier write up by dear Arun ji, Nutan was a tall lady, and in her teens, she must have appeared to be more mature. The film ‘Hamaari Beti’ is not available yet for viewing, but seeing her presence in ‘Nagina’ and ‘Hum Log’, two films that were released just a year later in 1951, one can see that she surely has an appearance of being older than her years.
The film has 10 songs in all, penned by three poets viz., Prem Dhawan, Pt Faani and Randheer. This particular song is written by Randheer. The enchanting composition is by Snehal Bhatkar. The singing voices are those of Mukesh and Geeta Dutt.
This one is a lovely ‘roothna – manaana’ song. The format is unlike a regular song with a mukhdaa and antaraas. It is more in line with an exchange of words of love, like a ‘tappa’ song in Punjabi. Lovely words, beautiful melody, a quick pace and a wonderful rendering. One line goes like
jis tarah gulshan mein aa jaaye bahaar
muskuraate gungunaate aaiye
aa jaaiye
