As a tribute to the great singer Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (4 february 1922- 24 january 2011) on his third death anniversary today (January 24th), here is a song from 1985 film Ankahee. The film was produced by Amol Palekar and Jayant D. The star cast included Amol Palekar, Deepti Naval, Devika Mukherjee, Vinod Mehra, Shriram Lagoo, Dina Pathak and Anil Chatterjee etc. The film had superb music and this traditional Bhajan is set to music by my most favourite Music Director Jaidevji.
The song is picturised on Anil Chaterjee and a stunned Amol. Appreciative Shriram and Dina are also seen in the video.
Let us enjoy the bhajan in the divine and inimitable voice of Panditjee.
Song-Raghuvar tum ko meri laaj (Ankahee)(1985) Singer-Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Lyrics-Traditinal, MD-Jaidev
raghuvar tumko meri laaj
raghuvar tumko meri laaj

hoon to patit puraatan kariye
paar utaaro jahaaj
raghuvar
paar utaaro jahaaj
raghuvar tumko meri laaj
raghuvar tumko meri laaj
I also read THAT another comment and was misled. I do not think that it was a great crime. Even if it was his ‘punyateethi’, no harm in paying respect to the great soul. Births and Deaths are the eternal cycle for the Soul and the beginning is always preceded by the end…… as they say. !!!
Sir,
thanks for the post and remembering Panditji on his anniversary!! A very beautiful Bhajan to remember him on his anniversary.
Our tributes to this great legendary Singer…!!
(I had also shared this bhajan to Atul ji in Aug’13, and enjoyed it a lot while preparing its lyrics)
Bluefire-ji,
I was not offended by your correction. In fact, I thank you. My comments were in lighter spirit and I will always welcome your blue or whatever color firing. (again pardon my kidding)

Its the death anniversary of Pt Joshi, not b’day. Saw another comment on here stating its bday as well. Not sure why multiple folks are confused.
