A few days back I got a very personal email from our Sudhir Kapurji. This was a personal invite for contributing to the blog on the occasion of it reaching 10000 songs. At that time we were on song number 9720. Today before writing this when I visited the blog I see we are at song number 9750. So it is an alarm bell for slow pokes like me to send contributions to Atul at the earliest. Also when I saw the mail I had mentally decided that whatever I send till the D-Day of our blog should be happy and peppy songs. So here I am with my own version of an invitation song.
This song from the 1983 Saawan Kumar Tak (kidhar tak— this was a stupid joke we used to crack back then as school kids) produced and directed movie Souten. (Another stupid joke related to the title, back then was Hundred-Ten! God alone knows why we did those silly jokes). Here we have a very young Tina Munim (she was just 26 then) telling Rajesh Khanna (who must have been around 41, almost 20 years her senior) that he is invited for high tea by her mother Shashikala so that they can discus wedding plans.
This song in the voice of Kishore Kumar (standard voice of Rajesh Khanna) and Lata Mangeshkar is written by Saawan Kumar himself and Usha Khanna (who was his wife then) is the music director. Actually for quite some years I thought that Usha Khanna must have been some very new music director at that time. Then my dear dad told me that she had made her debut with “Dil Deke Dekho” in 1959. And till that time for some reason I thought that the music director of “Dil Dekhe Dekho” was O.P.Nayyar. What all wrong ideas we have as youngsters.
So lets enjoy the song and start a countdown to song number 10000.

Song-Shaayad meri shaadi ka khayaal dil mein aaya hai (Sautan)(1983) Singers-Lata, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Sawan Kumar, MD-Usha Khanna
Lyrics
Shaayad meri shaadi ka khayaal
shaayad meri shaadi ka khayaal dil mein aaya hai
isi liye mummy ne meri tumhe chaay pe bulaaya hai
kya kaha
phir se dohraao
(giggle)
shaayad meri shaadi ka khayaal
shaayad meri shaadi ka khayal dil mein aaya hai
isi liye mummy ne meri tumhe chaay pe bulaaya hai
Hmmm
panchhi akela dekh mujhe
panchhi akela dekh mujhe yeh jaal bichaaya hai
isi liye mummy ne teri mujhe chaay pe bulaaya hai
kyun hai na
nahin nahin
theek tum chaar baje ghar chale aana
mera haath maang lena
zara na sharmaana
theek tum chaar baje ghar chale aana
mera haath maang lena
zara na sharmana
saat phere mere sang sapne dekh rahi ho
khili huyi dhoop mein taare dekh rahi ho
arre nahin nahin baaba
chaay nahin peena
kyun kyun
tauba meri tauba maaf kar dena
inhin adaaon par toh haaye
apna dil ayaa hai
isi liye mummy ne meri tumhen chaay pe bulaaya hai
na na na na na na na na
panchhi akela dekh mujhe yeh
jaal bichaaya hai
isi liye mummy ne teri
mujhe chaay pe bulaaya hai
ha ha
aaa aa aa aa
laalalalalaala
dillagi na karo
chhedo na humko sanam
haan kaho
ghar chalo
tumko meri kasam
dillagi na karo
chhedo na humko sanam
haan kaho
ghar chalo
tumko meri kasam
jaaneman
maana hum tumpe marte hain
pyaar toh theek hai
shaadi se darte hain
shaadi se pehle toh sab achha lagta hai
saari umar ko phir rona padta hai
inhin adaaon par toh haaye
apna dil ayaa hai
isi liye mummy ne meri tumhe chaay pe bulaaya hai
arre panchhi akela dekh mujhe yeh
jaal bichaaya hai
isi liye mummy ne teri
mujhe chaay pe bulaaya hai
arre nahin baaba
Shayaad meri shaadi ka khayal
dil mein aaya hai
Isi liye mummy ne meri
tumhen chaay pe bulaaya hai
tumhe meri kasam
aaoge na
nahin bilkul nahin
haan
teri kasam aaunga
haha

That is a nice song.Must have been picturised in locations of Mauritius(Sawan Kumar`s favourite location).
Usha Khanna created a breezy duet (audio wise I like this song very much)
My brother used to make fun of (50 plus)female playback singer, singing the song and uttering dialogues like “issi liye mummy ne meri” and “Tumhein meri qasam, aaogey naa”, so much, so that I began to get emabarassed about my favourite female playback singer.
