Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No.60
————————————————–—————————————————

Welcome all to this post for today’s(27 August 2020) blog ten-year challenge. Hopefully we will have two posts under the challenge today.

Atul ji had mentioned in previous posts of the challenge that the blog was having ‘customary’ six posts a day those days. This average was well maintained throughout the month. The blog had a whopping total of 176 posts in August 2010, which if we think now would look impossible with the current rate. Nowadays even a hundred posts in a single month looks like a distant dream. The last occasion of a hundred posts in one single month was in March’2018.

But we can always hope that the blog in some future date will regain those glory years strike rate of ‘five -six’ posts per day. Let us see how many we can achieve today.

Ten years back on this date (27 august 2010), the following songs were posted on the blog;

Song Movie title-Year Remarks
Ritu aaye ritu jaaye duniyaa rang badalti hai Sahaaraa-1958 07 songs posted
Dil se dil takraaye Love Marriage-1959 All songs covered
Matwaali naar thumak thumak chali jaaye Ek Phool Chaar Kaante-1960 All songs covered
Phir ek baar kaho Maayaa-1961 All songs covered
Dekhi anaadi teri preet Biraadari-1966 All songs covered
Kaun sunegaa kisko sunaayen Sautan Ki Beti-1989 01 song posted

Out of the six movies represented that day on 27.08.2010 four movies viz. ‘Biraadari-1966’, ‘Maayaa-1961’, ‘Ek Phool Chaar Kaante-1960’ and ‘Love Marriage-1959’ have already been ‘Yippeeee’ed’ viz all their songs have been covered on the blog.

We have two movies ‘Sautan Ki Beti-1989’ and ‘Sahaaraa-1958’ eligible for discussion today, ten years down the line.

Here I am presenting a song from ‘Sautan Ki Beti-1989’ which had made its debut on the blog ten years back and completed a full cycle of ‘ten years’ with only one of its song represented on the blog.

Kaun sunegaa kisko sunaayen 27.08.2010

I had watched this movie during my stay at Kota in 1989. Though I do not remember the movie now but couple of its songs were quite popular. Today I am presenting one such song from this movie.

Music in ‘Saawan Kumar movies’ had always remain special and songs from the movies directed by him have always been likened and appreciated by many.

Take the case of this movie it had few good songs and one ‘sentimental gem’ sung by Kishore Kumar had already been posted earlier. Today’s song is also a ‘sad song’, having beautiful (or meaningful) lyrics, sung by Lata Mangeshkar and lip synced by Rekha on screen.

Before moving to the today’s song here is a brief about this movie.

“Souten Ki Beti-1989” or ‘Sautan Ki Beti’ was directed by Saawan Kumar for his home productions ‘Saawan Kumar Productions’. It had Jeetendra, Rekha, Jayaprada, Sumeet Saigal, Vijayendra Ghatge. They were supported by Raja Babu, Baby Guddu, Bal Dhuri, Anil Kumar, Nisha Prashant, B.B. Bhalla and Veera. This movie also had Ramesh Oswal, Ratan Bhatia, Bindu Kamat, Poonam Malhotra, Jamura, Narendra Wadhavan, Balvant Bansal and others.

The movie introduced Dipinti. (I don’t remember if she acted in more movies?)

Talat Hussain makes a friendly appearance in this movie.

Story of this movie was also written by Saawan Kumar and screenplay was written by Bhaarat B. Bhalla. (the double ‘aa’ in Saawan Kumar and Bhaarat is as per the titles of the movie and not added by me 🙂 ).

Dialogues of this movie were written by Kamleshwar. Editing was done by Vanktesh Naik.

This movie had seven songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Anuradha Paudwal, Sadhna Sargam and Meghna Shrivastava.

All the songs were also written by Saawan Kumar himself and music for this movie was composed by Vedpaal. (‘aa’ 🙂 )

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 27.06.1989. (cannot forget the date 🙂 , Pancham Da’s birth anniversary and special day for me)

Let us now enjoy today’s song lip synced on screen by the beautiful Rekha and sung by Lata Mangeshkar. As mentioned above lyrics are Sawan Kumar and music is composed by Vedpal.

Yes, it is a story of every day – a song plays and memories come by. Or sometimes, memories passing thru remind of a song that is so very dear to the heart. That is all that remains now – memories and songs playing hide and seek in the dimly lit bylanes of the mind.

– – – –

The next song in this series comes from the 1976 film ‘Ladki Bholi Bhaali’. And incidentally this film is also making its debut on the blog today. That makes it three in a row today – 🙂 🙂 .

The film was directed by Ashok Roy for Mahesh Chitra, Bombay. The star cast listed for the film is Asha Sachdev, Gautam Sarin, Junior Mehmood, Ramesh Dev, Tarun Ghosh, Anita Guha, Ranveer Raj, Ram Mohan, Lalita Chatterjee, Rupali, Darshan, Krishan Duggal, Baldev Trehan, Manik Dutt, Master Devanand, Heena Kausar, Rakesh Pandey, Snehlata, Bharat Bhushan, and Dheeraj etc.

The film has music by Usha Khanna. Geet Kosh lists four songs for this film, three of which are from the pen of Hasrat Jaipuri. All those three songs are solos in the voice of Asha Bhosle. The fourth song, which is the song presented today, is a duet in the voice of Rafi Sb and Usha Khanna herself. And it is written by Saawan Kumar Tak.

Saawan Kumar has had a good partnership with Usha Khanna. Usha ji has given music to 11 films which have either been directed by Saawan Kumar, or he has written lyrics for them. They were married, but the matrimonial relationship did not last for long. Together they have created such popular hits like “Barkha Rani, Zara Jam Ke Barso“, “Wo Jidhar Dekh Rahe Hain, Sab Udhar Dekh Rahe Hain” (both from ‘Sabak’, 1973) “Teri Galiyon Mein Na Rakhenge Kadam. . .“, (‘Hawas’, 1974), “Sar e Mehfil Mera Imaan Beimaan Ho Gaya” (‘Ab Kya Hoga’, 1977), “Shaayad Meri Shaadi Ka Khyaal. . .“, “Zindagi Pyaar Ka Geet Hai” (both from ‘Souten’, 1983). (I am surprised that this last mentioned song is still waiting to come on board.)

Coming to today’s song, it is picturized on Rakesh Pandey and Asha Sachdev Snehlata, with Gautam Sarin also present in the scene and also lip-syncing some lines. I have not yet seen the film, and so the situation is not clear to me. I request other friends and readers who may have seen this film, to add some background information about the situation in this song.

Hullo Atuldom

The song with this post is from ‘Kaho Na…Pyar Hai’, a movie that was released on 14th January 2000. It is produced and directed by Rakesh Roshan. This film was planned as the launch vehicle for Hrithik Roshan in Bollywood with Ameesha Patel playing the female lead. This movie had the new comer Hrithik play a double role which he handled well and the movie was liked by the critics and masses. The songs were a rage and the movie a huge hit.

It was a simple love story where a rich girl (Sonia- Ameesha Patel) and poor boy (Rohit- Hrithik) meet and fall in love much against the girl’s father’s liking. But the twist comes when the boy gets killed in a road accident and a sad heroine discovers his look-alike (Raj) in New Zealand where she goes to recover from the shock of her love’s death. As an added bonus the fellow in New Zealand also falls in love with her; only this boy is decently wealthy. So logically her father should have no objection but again there is a twist- on landing in India the police inspectors who caused Rohit’s accident mistake that Raj is Rohit and start a man-hunt for him. In between all this twist and turns it is revealed that all of this was with Sonia’s father’s instructions. Now please don’t scratch your brains in confusion, the movie ends with Raj and Sonia getting together, and her father and his aides being arrested- very simple story.

We have been visiting this movie every time for Hrithik’s birthday, the last time being 2015. So now everyone has got a clue why this song today.😊! Ah yes, a day late, of course. Hrithik turned 44 yesterday. The song is quite appropriate for the occasion – there is a party and cake and lots of friends and song and dance. Lovely song and such innocence on the faces of the lead actors.

This song is my personal favourite specially the point where Hrithik shows the action of blowing the candles. Oooh! The character he plays in the song is of Rohit. He is being helped by his friend Vrajesh Hirjee in getting the attention of Rajesh Tandon (the fair guy next to Ameesha at the beginning of the song), his boss’s son, who owns a restaurant and is looking for a singer and a live band for the hotel. And all these rich boys and gals are so accommodating that they not only allow the gate-crasher to sing but also enjoy themselves along with him. Hrithik bagged the best male-debut actor of that year along with the best male actor award for this movie – a first in the industry.

The choreographer of this song – Farah Khan – also celebrated her 53rd birthday day before yesterday. She is the niece of former child stars Daisy and Honey Irani, daughter of their sister Maneka Irani and stuntman-turned-filmmaker Kamran Khan. She is a fan of Michael Jackson and is a self-trained dancer. She landed an assignment in Mansoor Khan’s ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ (1992) when Saroj Khan left the project. She has won the Filmfare award of best choreographer six times one of it being for a song from ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’ – “Ek Pal Ka Jeena“.

Wishing both Hrithik Roshan and Farah Khan a belated Happy Birthday.

Come 1977 and Shatrughan Sinha had been around in films for about 8 years now. He already had two Filmfare awards for best supporting actor under his belt – in 1971 for ‘Paaras’ and 1975 for ‘Dost’. On screen, majority of his roles have a style – freewheeling, assertive and emphatic, whether being the smug good guy or the abrasive bad guy. In the seventies, Shatrughan Sinha was one of the busier actors in the industry, averaging 8 to 9 films a year.

A few days back I got a very personal email from our Sudhir Kapurji. This was a personal invite for contributing to the blog on the occasion of it reaching 10000 songs. At that time we were on song number 9720. Today before writing this when I visited the blog I see we are at song number 9750. So it is an alarm bell for slow pokes like me to send contributions to Atul at the earliest. Also when I saw the mail I had mentally decided that whatever I send till the D-Day of our blog should be happy and peppy songs. So here I am with my own version of an invitation song.

Kishore Kumar is mostly known for singing happy songs. But he has sung sad songs as well , and they are more in number than we tend to believe. And out of all these songs that he has sung, there are some gems that are less known than they should be. For instance, I have posted his sad songs from “Nishaan” (Lahron ki tarah yaadein ) and “Begaana”(Matlabi hain log yahan par ) in this blog which are absolute gems.
