Atul Song-A-Day 10K Song Milestone Celebrations –32
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
10,000 songs! It seems years since I made my first comment on this blog. I was just 15-16 when I discovered this blog (I have no idea how I discovered it). I remember that I had made a request for an old Dev Anand song to be posted back then from Atul (chupke se mile pyaase pyaase). I continued to make requests for months after that while also introducing my mum to the blog. Then my brother. And also my grandfather. It really became a family affair.
Initially I would make a lot of requests for older songs (the definition of which completely differs from the rest of the contributors). But then I realised that there was a general slump towards this apparent “golden age of music”. This is when I started requesting for medium range songs from the 70’s and 80’s. Phir woh bhi mumma jaise log kaafi daalne lage. Thats when I shifted my focus to songs post my birth (“new songs”). But woh Atul itna kam daalte hai ki pucho mat.
When the blog became flooded with requests, I would sometimes write lyrics and send or else remind my mum of a song to write out. It was a really fun activity that she I would do together. The lyrics that she couldn’t catch I would try, the information I didn’t know she would give and we used to fill in each others work and proof read it. I really loved doing this and I have been missing it so much in the last 7 months. I moved to Mumbai for a few months and now have joined the National Institute of Design, Gandhinagar for my PG. I like it here, but it feels like a huge portion of my life is missing because of the lack of this blog as well as those song sessions with Amma.
This blog has been something that I have seen grow over the years, and conversely it has also seen me grow. I have gone from a 10th standard teenager to an adult in its company. It used to be my distraction during my pre-university days, a creative outlet when I was drowning in college work and today in PG, when I have barely time to sleep and wash clothes (I washed them after two weeks when I finally ran out of them yesterday); I still want to somehow find time to write this article.
This community has connected us with people like Sudhirji too, whom I met this year in May in Delhi. He was so helpful during our time there and it never felt like we had only just met his. Years of reading his words on this blog had led to beautiful familiarization with him. It also of course helped that he had all of J. R. R. Tolkien’s works on his shelves as well as shelves and shelves of music cassettes and movie CDs.
In all this, I have been thinking for months what song I should post along with my article for this occasion. Should I post something old? But those will have be better knowledge from Arunkumarji. Something from the 70s? But Amma would be a better person for them. Something new? But my mum tells me that my position as the youngest contributor has been usurped (yay! for new blood). But then I remembered a song I had written the lyrics to long back and kept and I realised it was perfect for this occasion.
A song that has a beautiful old world feel to it but is from the last couple of years. A song that has the three things– I think that make for good music – tune, vocals and lyrics – and all of them brilliant IMHO. This song is from the movie “Lootera” has been composed by favorite new composer – Amit Trivedi; vocals are by Monali Thakur and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. This movie swept all the music awards at Filmfare and truly deserved it. Toh ab pesh karte hai dil ko bhelane wala gana – Sawaar loon from Lootera (2013). Picturised on Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh.

Song-Sanwaar loon haaye sanwaar loon (Lootera)(2013)Singer-Monali Thakur, Lyrics-Amitabh Bhattacharya, MD-Amit Trivedi
Lyrics
Hawa ke jhonke aaj mausamon se rooth gaye
gulon ki shokhiyaan jo bhanwre aake loot gaye
badal rahi hai aaj zindagi ki chaal zara
isi bahaane kyun naa main bhi dil ka haal zara
sanwaar loon
haaye sanwaar loon
sanwaar loon
haaye sanwaar loon
hawa ke jhonke aaj mausamon se rooth gaye
gulon ki shokhiyaan jo bhanwre aake loot gaye
badal rahi hai aaj zindagi ki chaal zara
issi bahaane kyun naa main bhi dil ka haal zara
sanwaar loon
haaye sanwaar loon
sanwaar loon
haaye sanwaar loon
baraamade puraane hain,
nayi si dhoop hai
jo palke khat khata raha hai
kis ka roop hai
shararaten kare jo aise bhool ke hijab
kaise usko naam se main pukaar loon
sanwaar loon
haaye sanwaar loon
sanwaar loon
sanwaar loon
yeh saari koyalein bani hain aaj daakiyaan
kuhu-kuhu mein chitthiyan padhe mazaakiyaan
yeh saari koyalein bani hain aaj daakiyaan
kuhu-kuhu me chitthiyan padhe mazakiyaan
inhe kaho ki na chhupaaye
kisne hai likha bataaye,
Uski aaj main nazar utaar loon
Sanwaar loon
haaye sanwaar loon
Sanwaar loon,
sanwaar loon!
hawa ke jhonke aaj mausamon se rooth gaye
gulon ki shokhiyaan jo bhanwre aake loot gaye
badal rahi hai aaj zindagi ki chaal zara
isi bahaane kyun naa main bhi dil ka haal zara

Nice post, Peevisie. And a very nice song too – I’m hearing it for the first time. But then, I hardly know any songs of this millenium. Am sure there are many good songs – it’s just that I haven’t made the effort to listen to them. Need to do so.
Thank you for posting this. We need to get Atul to increase his “new-gen” song postings. 🙂

Dear Peevesie,
This is to congratulate you for your highly readable post today. You seem to have a flair for writting and the flow too is so natural that,I am sure,if you attempt, you can write novels. Do develop this skill.
Your posts are like fresh breezes. They bring new styles, tunes and songs. For ‘ oldies ‘ like me they work as new medicines. Thanks.

Peevesie, nice song. Had not heard it before. Old world charm is there in it. Thank you for introducing the song.
So we have 2 contributors who post new songs. Hope to hear more of them.
@Atulji, if you dont mind, there is a small correction. In the 1st antara, it should be “kiska roop hai” in the English version. Hindi version is ok. Can it be corrected? I feel that there should not be any mistakes in this blog.

Peevesie,
As Arunji would like to put it, all songs beyond 90s are not bad. Indeed this one is good. I do listen to songs of this gen, mainly out of compulsion. My final year college going son joins me and his mom in listening to the songs of the golden era. So we too give in to his request/demands to listen to current songs. I do not regret it. Some of them (many) do make good listening.
Thanks for the post and song.
All the best
