“Majhli Didi” (1967) was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherji for K G Pictures. The movie had Dev Kishan, Meena Kumari, Sachin, Maruti, Leela Misra, Keshto Mukherjee, Dharmendra, Leela Chitnis, Lalita Pawar, Bipin Gupta etc in it.
Today (27 august 2014) is the 8th death anniversary of Hrishikesh Mukherji (30 september 1922- 27 august 2006). On this occasion, here is a lovely “paheli” song from “Majhli Didi” (1967). This song is sung by Lata, Kamal Barot and Nilima Chatterji. It is pictrised on Meena Kumari playing mother to Baby Sarika, Master Khalid and Baby Razia.
The lyrics are by Neeraj and music is composed by Hemant Kumar.
This song is picturised quite nicely. The mother indulges in a “paheli” (riddles) session with her kids. Though it must be said that I did not fully understand these pahelis. I was better in solving them when I was a child. 🙂
As the session ends, the kids want more, but the mother throws spanner in their works, telling them that she has lots of other works to attend to. Not just that, she asks the kids to go and study and that she was going to take their test in the afternoon. 🙂
