Today (30 august 2014) is the 91st birth anniversary of Shailendra (30 august 1923- 14 december 1966). When I look at his career as a lyricist, I find that he had a 17 years long career as a lyricist (1949 to 1966). He was at the peak of his prowess when we died at the age of just 43 ! But by that time he had achieved so much in his career that the status of a legend was his for the taking and he is rightfully regarded as one of the colossus among HFM lyricists.
According to an estimate, Shailendra wrote some 678 or so number of songs in hindi movies. If that is the case then this blog with 567 songs of Shailendra is on course to contain all the lyrics that Shailendra wrote in his career.
It is easy to assume that Shailendra mostly worked with Shankar Jaikishan. That is true but he worked with other music directors as well. The only major music directors with whom he did not work (to the best of my knowledge) were Naushad and O P Naiyyar. Some day I will carry out an analysis of all the songs that Shailendra wrote. This kind of study may already have been conducted in fact.
On this occasion, Here is a song from “Madhu”(1959). This movie was directed by S Bannerji and Gyan Mukherji for Maya Art Pictures. The movie had Meena Kumari, Karan Dewan, Kumkum, Tuntun, Sailen Bose, Jagdish Sethi, Sunder etc in it.
Only the audio of this song is available. This song, which is the fourth song from this movie to appear in the blog is sung by Lata alongwith what seems like the voice of a parrot who keeps uttering the word “Vijay” thus spilling the beans of the lip syncing lady (Meena Kumari, I guess) that her beloved in Vijay (Karan Dewan, of course).
Shailendra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Roshan, another one who was lost to us at a young age at the peak of his career.

Many Thanks for the post. I was not aware that more than 80% of his songs have already been covered here.
A very minor typo error in the second para. Please replace “sang” by “wrote”.
