The Many Colors of Love #21 – The Ticklish Aches of Love
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

And so wrote the scribe

pyaar ka. . . dard hai
pyaar ka. . . dard hai
meetha meetha. . . pyaara pyaara
meetha meetha. . . pyaara pyaara
ye haseen. . . dard hi
ye haseen. . . dard hi
do dilon ka. . . hai sahaara
do dilon ka. . . hai sahaara

Aah, to be young at heart, and in love – the emotion carries one to the top of the world. And really, there is a tickle of a lovely pain in the heart when this emotion starts to spread its wings. When just a mere mention of a name, or even just the thoughts of that someone special, will trigger this hastened heartbeats and a rising feeling, that it is difficult to restrain from staying still. The phrase – ‘pulling at the strings of the heart’ – has been oh so aptly coined. Literally it seems as if something is pulling at the heart. And the ache that follows is so full of pleasure. For the thoughts of that someone special are joining this ache, in a delectable conspiracy that brings this loveable tingling sensation. And the heart wants to just soak itself and remain submerged in this fluidy flow of emotions and sensations.

More feelings and passions will follow later. But it is this first tug at the strings of heart, as this feeling of love is just beginning to germinate inside. No one can fully explain why and when this happens. No one can attach a significant cause or reason to it. The only indications are the tiny flutters inside the heart, and a very lovable pain that in itself is such a source of pleasure. The wonders of this feeling have to be experienced, to be understood.

Within the ocean of the poetry of love that has been written over the ages, this sprouting ache in the heart of the love just beginning to reveal itself has a special place all by itself. Countless wonderful verses have been written by discerning poets, trying to describe the joys of this enthralling ache that will start to permeate the self, as the feelings of affinity to that someone special start to make their appearance in the heart. And yes, there are many a songs in Hindi films that talk of this wonderful pain, and how loveable it is.

This song is from the 1951 film ‘Ek Nazar’. Rehman – so suave and dapper, and Nalini Jaiwant, so beautiful and charming. A romantic story of two hearts getting into this new feeling of love. And the expression is a song that will really steal your heart away. The words are from the pen of Rajendra Krishan and the melodious composition is by SD Burman. Lata ji has rendered this oh so lovingly. Maybe a new category should be started – ‘Trying to sleep, but thoughts of loved one do not allow’. (I can think of two three more songs immediately that will fall into this genre). On screen, Nalini Jaiwant is getting ready for sleeping, but of course the thoughts of the meetings and the words exchanged with the loved one keep echoing in the mind. It is not possible to lie still, and the sleep will not come, howsoever hard she may try. Eventually, not able to contain herself, she has to get up. And the sentiments in the heart are expressed in this lovely song.

Listen and enjoy.

ओ ओ
ओ ओ

More than the song (superb, of course), the write-up is sweeter
