Today (22 september 2014) is the 23rd death anniversary of Durga Khote (14 January 1905-22 September 1991). Though she began playing the roles of leading lady in the beginning of her career, she soon began to get the roles of mother to several generations of actors.
Quite a few songs were picturised in Hindi movies on her during the Maa phase of her career. Here is one such song from “Bidaai” (1974). This song is a background song which is picturised on a distraught Durga Khote whose children have deserted her, as they routinely used to do in the movies of Prasad Productions those days. 🙂 The picturisation also shown Master Satyajit and she sees Lord Krishna in him which brings much needed solace to her.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
