Today (24 september 2014) is the eighth death anniversary of Padmini (12 june 1932-12 24 september 2006). She was one of three famous dancing sisters who were known as Travancore sisters. Her other two sisters were Lalitha (elde to her)and Raagini (younger to her). The three of them worked in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi movies.
In Hindi movies, Padmini is mostly known for her roles in Raj Kapoor’s movies like “Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai” (1960) and “Mera Naam Joker” (1970). She was nominated for Filmfare best actress award for “Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai” (1960), which she did not win. She however later won Filmfare best supporting actress award for “Kaajal” (1965). Subsequently, she was given Filmfare lifetime achievement award (South)too in 1990.
Here is a song from “Chanda Aur Bijli” (1969). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised as a roadsidetamasha song on Padmini, Mohan Choti, Master Sachin etc.
Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

I would like to draw your attention to one error in the songs of this movie.
The third song titled “Kaal ka Pahiya, Ghume bhaiya” does not appear on
the screen when I click on the song lines; instead the previous song – 2nd
song is seen. There are no comments or the video of the song are not seen. I don’t know whether the problem is on my computer or in the upload of song. Has any one draw your attention in this matter? Can you please update with the error correction?
The song “Kaal ka Pahiya, Ghume Bhaiya” won the filmfare award in 1970 as best song and Poet Neeraj also earned recognition. Thanks!

Sanjeev Kumar used to crack joke about his role in this movie saying that Sachin played the role of Chanda and Padmini played the role of Bijli and he (i.e.,Sanjeev kumar) played the role of “AUR”.Somewhere read about this in film magazines.
