“Shahanshah” (1953) was directed by Amiya Chakraborty for G P Productions, Bombay. The movie had Kamini Kaushal, Ranjan, K N Singh, Achala Sachdev, Shakeela, Agha, Mukri, Jagdish Kamal, Rajan Kapoor, Ramesh sippy, Baby Usha, Cuckoo, Mariana Lisbeth, Neeru, Kishu etc in it.
Seven songs from this obscure movie have been discussed in the past.
Here is the eighth song from this movie.
This song is sung by Manna Dey and chorus. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.
Only the audio of this song is available. From the sounds of it, the song appears to be a martial song where the leader of a group is exhorting his followers to break their shackles and defeat their tormentors. It sounds like a song sung while marching in a formation. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

tumhe jeena hai to
marne ki saugandh kha kar uthho
Faaqa-kashon

Marne ki saugandh kha kar uthho
Oonche mahal tharraa uthhen
Gusse mein yoon talmalaa kar uthho
aa aa aa aa aa aa
Oonche mahal tharraa uthhe
Gusse mein yoon talmalaa kar uthho
Aa aa aa aa
Shaahi ki zanjeerein todte chalo

Ho ho ho
Ho ho ho
Ho ho ho ho ho ho
Sheron ke dal
dekho aaye nikal
Maidaan mein jhanda uthhaaye huye
Sheron ke dal
dekho aaye nikal
Maidaan mein jhanda uthhaaye huye
Badhne do rann
Katne do tan
Baazoo hain ye aajmaaye huye

Badhne do rann
katne do tan
Baazu hai ye aajmaaye huye
Aa aa aa aa
Shaahi ki zanjeerein todte chalo
Shaahi ki zanjeerein todte chalo
Ho ho ho
Ho ho ho
Ho ho ho ho ho ho

apni talwaar se
sadiyon ke badle chukaate chalo
Lalkaar ke

Jis khet mein
Us khet hi ko jalaate chalo
Aa aa aa aa

RIP, Deven Verma.
A wonderful actor, with a wonderful sense of timing and that’s why he never resorted to loud or double-meaning dialogue kind of comedy.

Avadhlalji,
Will you be able to attend the Mumbai Gangout on 21.12.14, Sunday at Parle Intermational, Vile Parle(E) as you happen to from Mumbai. Please confirm.
By the way I take the opportunity to invite all the Atulites especially Mumbaites to the above DO from 9.30-5 pm. You need to confirm your availability within a day or two to me. Thanks parameter_ent@yahoo.co.in

Shah Sir,
I deem it an honour and privileged to be thought of a person worthy of being invited to the Atulites Mumbai Gangout. However, presently I do not stay in Mumbai but am based in Lucknow.
Much though I would have wished to attend the event, regrettably I would have to give it a miss as it seems highly unlikely for me to be in Mumbai on that date. Wish I could make it somehow.
I shall be grateful if it is possible to get the intimation of such gangouts whenever these are being planned either in Mumbai or in Delhi. While realising that these will mostly be held at a short notice only, an advance intimation will certainly be very helpful.
Once again thank you very much and with profound regards,
Avadh Lal,

Got to know that Deven Verma passed away today at the age of 78. Always liked his comedy, his double role in Angoor is unforgettable.
