This article is the 10700th song post in the blog.

Chilly winter greetings to all from a cold, cold Delhi. As I sit and write this post, the minimum temperature that continues to be maintained is in the range of 2 – 4 degrees C.  Add to that the fog that keeps the warm sun away from the view.  And top it up with rain that has been visiting us off and on.  When I woke up today morning, it was drizzling.  And the leaves of the trees waving in a brisk breeze told the story that it is going to be another chilly day.  And so it has been for the past couple of weeks.  Although I enjoy such weather, but there have been other circumstances, associated with the weather, that have kept me occupied and away from the blog activities.  But today, we must celebrate.

Welcome all to the 7th century of songs, i.e. after having crossed the 10K mark just about a week short of six months ago.  The rapid pace that Atul ji has been moving the ticker in the past two weeks, brings us back to our regular rhythm.  The last couple of weeks in December was comparatively a slower pace.  This segment of the century block contains one very interesting milestone.  If I recall correctly, it is for the first time that we almost got into the current year with a posted song.  On 3rd Jan (2015), Atul ji posted the song “Love Is A Bhaste Of Time”, from the film ‘PK’ that was released just a couple of weeks earlier, in December (2014).  That is the closest brush with current releases, for a blog that is proud to be the discussion forum for “. . . Bollywood songs of yesteryears.”  Do not take it otherwise, I am not complaining. Rather, highlighting that the variety mix continues to be enriched more and more with every passing century. Music is music, and wonderful music is getting created all the time.

With this post, however, I will take the readers back – back into the pioneering years and the pioneering artists who laid the foundations of the this art form, which we love so much. The special celebration today brings together two stalwart artists on their respective significant milestones. And the combination is rare, really, really rare.  The music for today’s song is composed by RC Boral, the grandfather of film music in India, and it is sung by Asha Bhosle, unquestionably one of the top divas of the Hindi film songs. Given that the Geet Kosh records show that there are just two songs that Asha Bhosle has sung solo under the stewardship of the grand master, this offering belongs to the rarest of rare category. And that too, because one of these two songs has a chorus accompaniment, and one is a pure solo song.  Today’s post brings this pure solo song for your listening pleasure.

Today, we celebrate the 100th song under the music direction of RC Boral, and 1800th song of Asha Bhosle on this blog.

The film is ‘Dard e Dil’ from 1953.  In the early 1950s, the star of New Theatres was waning, and with it was waning the fortunes of Hindi films and film makers in Calcutta.  Bombay had become the center of the film industry.  After having spent a little over two dedicated decades with New Theatres, RC Boral ventured out to other film companies for the first time with the 1953 production ‘Dard e Dil’, from the banner of Nitin Bose Ltd., Bombay.

Having ventured out of Calcutta for the first time, this assignment also signaled the closure of his career in the film industry.  He followed up with ‘Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’ (also in 1953), and ‘Swami Vivekanand’ in 1955, before heading back to Calcutta once again.  Back to his cultural roots, he worked for another five years, giving music in Bangla films.  His work in the 1959 film ‘Saagar Sangmaye’ earned him the President’s award for the best film music for the year.  Then in 1960 came his last film – ‘Nutan Fasal’, after which he stopped working for films.  He continued to work with the All India Radio as a teacher, music director and an advisor.  In 1979, he was honored with the prestigious ‘Dada Saheb Phalke Award’.  He passed away in 1981.

The film ‘Dard e Dil’ is produced and directed by Nitin Bose for his own banner.  The star cast of the film includes Nimmi, Premnath, Meenakshi, Murad, Nawab, Protima Devi, Sultan Mazhar, Ratan Kumar, Shriram etc.  The six songs of this film have been written by Hasrat Jaipuri and DN Madhok.  This song is from the pen of Hasrat Jaipuri.  As noted above, Asha Bhosle has sung under his music direction in only two films, this one and ‘Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’.  There are two solo songs and one duet with Mohammed Rafi listed as per Geet Kosh.

This lovely expression of blossoming love is a wonderful creation that will mesmerize you.  The song is a reminder of the handiwork of the master craftsman.

Listen and enjoy.

Song – Pyaar Ho Gaya Mujhe Pyaar Ho Gaya (Dard e Dil) (1953) Singer – Asha Bhosle, Lyrics – Hasrat Jaipuri, MD – RC Boral

Lyrics

pyaar ho — gayaa
mujhe pyaar ho gayaa
ho mujhe pyaar ho gayaa
pyaar ke jalwe se mujhe
pyaar ho gayaa
pyaar ho — gayaa
mujhe pyaar ho gayaa
ho mujhe pyaar ho gayaa
duniya mein koi
duniya mein koi ab mera dildaar ho gayaa
pyaar ho — gayaa
mujhe pyaar ho gayaa
ho mujhe pyaar ho gayaa

baatein bhi ho gayeen
mere sapnon ki chhaaon mein
unko basaa liyaa
unko basaa liyaa hai mohabbat ke gaaon mein
jab main ne aankh band ki
deedaar ho gayaa
pyaar ho — gayaa
mujhe pyaar ho gayaa
ho mujhe pyaar ho gayaa

tu aasmaan ka chaand hai .. e .. e .. e .. e
tu aasmaan ka chaand hai
wo chaand pyaar ka
rehta hai dil le paas
rehta hai dil le paas hi mausam bahaar ka
milte hi aankh pyaar ka iqraar ho gayaa
pyaar ho — gayaa
mujhe pyaar ho gayaa
ho mujhe pyaar ho gayaa

main kyun bataaungi tujhe .. e .. e .. e .. e
main kyun bataaungi tujhe parwaana kaun hai
main jaanti hoon
main jaanti hoon jo bhi hai deewaana kaun hai
ab unka naam lenaa bhi dushwaar ho gayaa
pyaar ho — gayaa
mujhe pyaar ho gayaa
ho mujhe pyaar ho gayaa
pyaar ke jalwe se mujhe
pyaar ho gayaa
pyaar ho — gayaa
mujhe pyaar ho gayaa

Nitin ji,
Thanks for the additional info. Again, I feel you too could come up with an e-book etc. with the wealth of info in your possession.

Sudhirji,

Many Thanks.

We are 300 and 411 songs short of magical figures of 11K and 11,111. I am sure you come up with a special songs for these figures.
I was not very much aware of RC Boral being awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. Incidentally, I now learn, Nitin Bose and RC Boral were successive winners of this prestigious award. (25th and 26th respectively)

Regards.
